getting more rest would make them better parents, according to a US study.

A nationwide survey of 500 mothers by research firm Braun Research

found 54 percent of respondents said they were not getting enough sleep.

Full-time working mothers were suffering the most with 59 percent saying

they were not getting enough sleep. Half of the working mothers said they

were getting six or fewer hours sleep a night. Stay-at-home moms felt

better with 48 percent saying they were sleep deficient. The survey found 52 percent of America's mothers believed that getting more sleep would make them better parents and 65 percent said it would make them happier.

But even when mothers do get into bed, many lie awake at night with 36 percent thinking about the next day's tasks, 25 percent stressing about the family's finances and 24 percent worrying about family issues. But the survey found although sleep problems were among mothers, four out of five had not spoken to their doctor about it and 82 percent never considered using sleeping pills.

From very early days, people’s food was mainly supplied by Mother Nature: fruits, vegetables, herbs, weeds, etc. Later on, the hunting ages started and we tasted the meat for the first time.

Until now we glorify our meat and cook it in different ways. We use animal fats to make our dishes tasty and more flavored. But is it really a way to the healthy and happy living? It is commonly known that eating too much fat can increase the chances of becoming obese or developing heart diseases or even cancer.

I have found some interesting facts about meat itself. It is said that game(猎物)meat has only around 4% fat, where modern farms deliver to us meat with 40-60% fats!!! These fats are useless to our body. They poison us by putting away in the most objectionable places and at the same time ruin our health.

Some people say for them not to eat meat is impossible as they love the taste of it. Actually we are just used to the convenience of eating it. It is easy to cook, and it is easy to store in our refrigerators and freezers. The taste and smell associate with meat comes from spices and herbs we use to cook it. The meat itself is smelly and not tasty at all!

Not eating too much meat becomes more important when people get older. Body that gets old is poisoned after years and years of abusing it. We all get old with every moment and maybe we should think how to keep ourselves physically and mentally fit.

I found during my research that recommendation for healthy fat intake is around 60 grams for 2000 calorie diet. But I am sure it depends on your age, sex and your health condition. It is always advised to see your doctor or nutritionist before changing your eating habits.

For now, we can just follow Mediterranean style of living. The diet from the South keeps the people living there quite healthy. The reason for that lies in fats like olive oil, canola and peanut oil and avocados. The olive oil and others mentioned has been the most common part of this diet. Maybe that is why those counties have a very low rate of many cholesterol related diseases and cancer.

45.What is the passage mainly about?

A.How we began to eat meat.       B.Meat makes our dishes tasty.

C.Eating too much fat poisons our body.                       D.Mediterranean style of living.

46.Eating too much fat can cause the following problems except         .

       A.obese               B.heart diseases  C.cancer             D.hearing problem

47.The underlined word “it” in the fourth paragraph refers to          .

       A.speces              B.meat                 C.herbs                D.taste

48.What is the writer’s attitude towards fat intake?

A.We shouldn’t use animal fats to make our dishes.

B.We should only have fruits, vegetables and game meat for food.

C.Healthy fat intake depends on a person’s age, sex and health condition.

D.Mediterranean style of diet is the best way for everyone.

Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gunpoint by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination(开启号码锁的号码组合). The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found quickly and rushed to the local hospital. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with small pieces of the bullets still in his body.

I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, “If I were any better, I’d be twins.” “Weren’t you scared? Did you lose consciousness?” I asked. Jerry replied, “As I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices―I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live. The nurses were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read―He’s a dead man!”

“What did you do ?” I asked. “Well, there was a big, strong nurse shouting questions at me,” said Jerry. “She asked if I was allergic(过敏的)to anything.” .“Yes,” I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply,. I took a deep breath and yelled, “Bullets!”

Over their laughter, I told them. “I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead!” Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.

“Can I see my baby?” the happy new mother asked. When the wrapped baby was laid in her arms and she moved the fold of cloth to look upon his tiny face, she was shocked. The doctor turned quickly and looked out the tall hospital window. The baby had been born without ears.

Time proved that the baby’s hearing was perfect. It was only his appearance that was problem. When he rushed home from school one day and threw himself into his mother’s arms, she sighed, knowing that his life was to be filled with heartbreaks. He spoke out the tragedy. “A boy, a big boy...called me a monster.”

He grew up, handsome for his misfortune. A favorite with his fellow students, he might have been class president, but for that. He developed a gift, a talent for literature and music. The boy’s father had a talk with the family physician. “Could nothing be done?” “I believe I could transplant a pair of outer ears, if they could be available,” the doctor decided. Then the search began for a person who would make such a sacrifice for a young man. Two years went by. One day, his father said to the son, “You’re going to the hospital, son. Mother and I have someone who will donate the ears you need. But it’s a secret.” The operation was a brilliant success, and a new person appeared. His talents blossomed into genius, and school and college became a series of successes. Later he married and entered the diplomatic service.(外交工作).

One day, he asked his father, “Who gave me the ears? Who gave me so much? I could never do enough for him or her.” “I do not believe you could,” said the father, “but the agreement was that you are not to know...not yet.” The years kept their great secret, but the day did come. One of the darkest days that ever pass through a son, he stood with his father over his mother’s coffin. Slowly, tenderly, the father stretched forth a hand and raised the thick, reddish brown hair to show the mother had no outer ears. “Mother said she was glad she never let her hair be cut,” his father whispered gently, “and nobody ever thought mother less beautiful, did they?”
