Wikipedia's most-edited list
Do you use Wikipedia(维基百科) to find information about people, places, things and events? Have you ever wondered who writes all the information? The website is actually run by thousands of everyday people, as well as computers that can automatically update(自动更新) certain pages. You can even write something on a page if you want to.
Of course, it means that somebody can write incorrect information on a page. That does happen sometimes, but usually somebody else corrects the information quickly.
Wikipedia has counted how many times each page has been edited(编辑) this year and one page stood out.“Deaths in 2016”was edited 18,230 times. That is likely because lots of high-profile(知名度高的) people, including English singer David Bowie, American singer Prince, American boxer Muhammad Ali and former Cuban President Fidel Castro, died in 2016.
The 2016 US presidential election(总统选举) was followed by people around the world. It was also a popular page to edit on Wikipedia. The “Donald Trump” page had 8,933 edits and took second spot. The third most-edited page was related(与……有关)to Hillary Clinton, and the election itself took the fourth spot.
Pages about movies, sports, world events, natural disasters(灾难), musicians and artists all appeared in the top 25 most-edited list. Vincent Van Gogh's page received 3,551 edits during the year. Four Wikipedia editors rewrote the page in order to give people a clear understanding of the Dutch partner's true nature, according to one editor.
The variety of pages that were edited shows how people with entirely different interests are still all looking for information.

【题目】 People in the United States honor their parents with two special days: Mother's Day, on the second Sunday in May, and Father's Day, on the third Sunday in June. These days are set to show love and respect for parents. They raise their children and educate them to be responsible people. They also give love and care. These two days make us think about the changing roles of mothers and fathers. More mothers now work outside the home. More fathers must help with child care.

These two special days are celebrated in many different ways. On Mother's Day, people wear carnations (康乃馨). A red one symbolizes a living mother. A white one shows that the mother is dead. On these days, families get together at home, as well as in restaurants. They often have outdoor barbecues for Father's Day. These are days of fun and good feelings and memories.

Another tradition is to give cards and gifts. Children make them in school. Many people make their own presents. These are valued more than the ones bought in stores. It is not the value of the gift that is important, but it is "the thought that counts". Greeting card stores, flower shops, candy makers, bakeries, telephone companies, and other stores do a lot of business during these holidays.

1What days do people in the USA honor their parents with?

______________

2When is Mother's Day?

______________

3What does a white carnation show?

______________

4People don't have outdoor barbecues for Father's Day, do they?

______________

5Mother's Day is coming. What will you do for your mother?

______________

【题目】 Star scientists have taken the first ever picture of a black hole, which is from a far away galaxy (银河系). It is 40 billion km across-three million times the size of the Earth-and has been described by scientists as "a monster".

The black hole is 500 million trillion km away and was photographed by a network of eight telescopes (望远镜) across the world.

Details have come out today in Astrophysical Journal Letters. Prof Heino Falcke, says "It is one of the heaviest black holes that we think there is. It is a real monster."

The picture shows a quite bright "ring of fire", as Prof Falcke describes it. The bright halo is caused by superheated gas fling into the hole. The light is brighter than all the billions of other stars in the galaxy-which is why it can be seen so far away from Earth.

The dark circle at the centre is the point at which the gas enters the black holes, which is an object that has such a large gravitational (万有引力的) pull, not even light can escape.

【题目】阅读下面短文,用括号内所给动词的适当形式填空(必要时可加情态动词或助动词)。
Bullying (欺凌) is doing things to hurt other people. It is a serious problem at school.
Miah—now a 22—year—old girl, still (remember) how she was bullied in junior high school. "They kicked me, put sticks in my hair and took money from me. Even worse, I (make) to eat rubbish. I never (forget) those moments. "
Miah is not the only case. I saw another bullying situation when I was a student. Some students bullied a handicapped (智力低下的) girl every day —hitting, pushing, and kicking her. They just enjoyed (do) it. The girl didn't realize that people (hurt) her. She couldn't even tell the teacher. The situation lasted for a long time.
Bullying at school is getting worse, so, many people (try) to start anti—bullying(反欺凌) programs. Students in many schools have already taken actions. They (create) anti—bullying clubs. Many students have joined the clubs. They work with teachers to show students how to stop bullying. Some other programs have proved to be successful, too.
In Wales, two girls came up with an idea to stop bullying on the school bus. They created a bus pass (乘车证) and made four rules for students: no bullying, no swearing(骂脏话), no smoking and no shouting. Whenever a student broke a rule, he would get a mark on his pass. When a student had four marks, he wouldn't be allowed to take the bus anymore. The bus pass idea worked. It (stop) bullying on the bus.
In Michigan, some students tried to stop bullying with friendship. They made DVDs. They gave the DVDs to students in their school (teach) them how to be good friends. This idea worked, too. After that, there was less bullying at their school.
School programs like these (help) bullies learn to behave properly and they can also help prevent school bullying. I think it will come to a stop if everyone does something.
