【题目】ALi Ping, have you seen the science fiction film “The Wandering Earth”(流浪地球)recently?

BYes, I have. I saw it during the Spring Festival.

AIt was reported that the film was great. What does it tell about?

BIt tells a story about 1 humans, threatened(威胁)by a dying and swelling sun, build very large engines to push the planet out of the solar system, starting a centuries-long journey in search of a new sun.

AYou mean our earth is in great danger and we should try to save it, right?

BYes, quite right. As we all know, with the 2 of modern agriculture and industry, more and more pollution is produced. We all should have a strong sense of 3 protection. Or we humans won’t find places to live in.

ASure. But in your opinion, what 4 of pollution are there?

BThere are many. The most important ones are water, air and land pollution.

ACan you tell me what caused water pollution and how we should solve these problems

BAs we can see, people are 5 litter into the river and factories are putting waste into the river, so water is polluted. I think we should require our government to close down those factories and call on people to clean up the river and 6 every kind of pollution.

ADo you have any ideas for solving the air pollution?

BWell, to cut down air pollution, we should take the bus or subway instead of driving. Of course, riding a bike is also a good choice. It’s good for health and it 7 costs anything!

AWhat else can we do to help save the earth?

BNothing is waste if we have a 8 mind. We can put those things we don’t need to good use. We can rethink, reuse and recycle them!

AAny good examples to share with me?

BWe can learn from Amy Hays, a most unusual woman in the UK. She lives in a house that she built 9 out of rubbish. Jessica Wong from Hong Kong made handbags by using old clothes, especially old jeans. Both of them are good at recycling and they are a(n) 10 to us all.

AThey’re great! If only we join together to fight against pollution and learn to recycle, we will make a difference and lead to a better earth.

【题目】 A man walked in the desert for two days without any water. While he was feeling hopeless, he suddenly found a small house. He pulled his tired body inside. This was a small airless house and in the corner he discovered a water pump (抽水机).

Excited, he went forward to draw (抽取) water, but no water came out no matter how hard he tried. Too tired to do anything more, he fell to the ground. Then he saw a small bottle. On the bottle was a note, which read, “You must pour the water from the bottle into the pump before you draw water! Don’t forget, before you leave, refill the bottle with water!” He opened the bottle and found it was filled with water!

At that moment he thought, “It might be a little selfish, but as long as I drink the water in the bottle, I can be sure to leave this room alive! However, if I do as the note says and pour the only water into the pump and no water comes out, I will die of thirst. Should I take the risk or not?” It was five minutes later that he chose to pour the only water into the pump and began to draw water. After a minute, water started to come out!

After he had drunk enough water, he refilled the bottle. He added the following words after the note: Before you get something, you should first learn to pay.

【题目】 Sao Paulo in Brazil is a very big city, and it’s growing fast. Every year there are more cars and motorcycles on the roads. But not enough new rules have been built. The city’s traffic has become so terrible that sometimes there are traffic jams(堵塞)100 kilometres long! Traveling across the city can take hours.

But in a helicopter(直升飞机), it can take just a few minutes. There are now about 500 helicopters in the city, and they can be seen- and heard- flying at all times of the day and night. Sao Paulo has become famous for having so many helicopters.

Tiago Gomez is a Sao Paulo businessman who often uses helicopters to travel around the city. “I use a helicopter taxi almost every day,” he says. “A pilot flies me tomy business meetings and at the end of the day he takes me back to my home outside the city. People sometimes tell me it’s a waste of money, but I’m a busy man. I can’t wait in traffic jams for hours. Time is money. So for me, helicopters are great.”

But many people don’t agree. Professor Catarina Ferreira is a transportation expert who has studied the city’s traffic problems. “I understand why wealthy people use helicopters,” says Ferreira, “but it’s not good for the city. They’re noisy and they’re bad for the environment. Also, we really need to do something about Sao Paulo’s traffic problems. But that isn’t going to happen if all the wealthy, important people just fly over the streets and pay no attention to the problems below them.”

根据短文内容,判断正(T)、误(F)。

1The traffic problems are very serious in Sao Paulo.

2Helicopters can be used only in the daytime in Sao Paulo.

3Tiago Gomez would rather spend lots of money on the helicopter than wait in traffic jams.

4Helicopters are harmful to the city and they cause lots of pollution.

5Sao Paulo’s traffic problems are easy to solve as long as transportation experts do enough research.

【题目】 One night in April, Corey Simmons got on the New York City subway, heading from Manhattan Brooklyn to pick up his son from the boy’s grandmother’s.

Simmons knew he needed to open the green folder(文件夹)on his legs, becauseinside lay his son’s math homework that father and son were supposed to complete together.

His son, who was in the third grade, had just failed a test on fractions(分数).

Simmons, 40, was never great at math. He remembered little about fractions. He opened the folder and started on a problem, but wasn’t sure if he was doing it correctly. That was when a man got on the subway and sat next to him.

“He looked like a teacher or something,” Simmons thought. “He looked like he knew something about math.”

Like most New Yorkers, Simmons . But this time, he shared his problem with the stranger. To his surprise, the man offered to help. The two men talked through the man problems. The stranger helped Simmons understand them, so he could later teach his son. The moment was captured by Denise Wilson, who was heading home from her job and saw the pair doing homework. She posted the photo online. “I really love seeing things like this especially in New York,” she wrote. “To be a dad…and put down his pride and learn from a complete stranger… it was really a moving moment.”

The 20-minute subway lesson gave Simmons high hopes that his son would pass the next test. “He is going to surprise his teacher,” Simmons said.
