Emma has a lot on her plate. Not only is she a student at Santa Margarita Catholic High School, but also founder of her own organization. Beary Merry Christmas. She volunteers to serve poor kids and families in Orange Town in California. US.

To honor her best friend who died of cancer nearly 10 years ago. Emma decided to serve those in Orange Town who are less lucky than she is.

She began with the simple idea of collecting donated Build-A-Bears. the popular stuffed (填充的) animal that is made by children themselves in the stores* workshops. Emma then took the donated bears to a hotel in California and gave them as gits to the homeless children there during the holiday season.

With donations now at more than 100 bears a year, Emma and volunteers host Beary Merry Christmas events every year. Volunteers at events not only give out the bears, but also clothing, meals, and other supplies.

"I love making relationships with the people I serve,' Emma said. “The thanks they have, hearing their stories and seeing how happy they are. it's so cool.”

Not wanting to limit the giving to just the holiday months, Emma now hosts other events for Valentine's Day. Mother's Day and Halloween, providing the chance for her volunteer team to make a difference throughout the year.

Future plans for Emma include establishing a public food pantry (储藏室)and providing a self-awareness (自我意识) class for students on her campus who will soon attend college.

Heading to college herself in the fall. Emma is looking to stay local and continue to help out in her town. In fact, she was recently recognized by the Disneyland Resort as a "Dreamer & Doer” for her efforts in improving her community, along with 32 other Orange Town high school students.

The smiles on the faces of those she serves remain both her motivation and her reward. "These charity efforts are such a big part of my life," Emma said. “All of it has taught me to be more compassionate (有同情心的)and to look out for the needs of others before my own.”

【题目】阅读与回答问题

A natural resource is anything people can use which comes from nature. People cannot make natural resources, but get them from the earth. Examples of natural resources are air, water, copper, wood, oil, wind energy, hydro-electric energy, iron and coal. Refined(精炼的) oil is not a natural resource because people make it.

We often say that we can divide natural resources into two different groups: renewable resources and non-renewable resources.

A renewable resource can grow again and come back again after we use it. For example, soil, sunlight, water and wood are renewable resources.

A non-renewable resource is a resource that cannot grow or come back, or a resource that will take a very long time to come back. For example, coal is a non-renewable resource. When we use more coal, there will be less coal afterward. One day, there will be no coal to make goods. The non-renewable resource can be used up directly, or we can find a renewable resource to replace it. It is important to save non-renewable resources, because if we use them too quickly, there will not be enough in the future.

Most natural resources are limited. This means that they will run out. But a perpetual(长久的;无尽的) resource won’t. Some examples of perpetual resources include solar energy, tidal(潮汐的) energy and wind energy. Other examples are salt, stone and diamonds.
