【题目】 The world uses about a thousand million (百万) tons of water a day. Water is a human right and everyone should have their share. Yet more than 700 million people around the world have trouble getting clean, safe water.

Treating waste water is a good way to provide fresh water for us. But the technology they use requires a lot of energy.

Scientists are working to create a less costly technology. They want to produce 20 times more clean water and make sure everyone has enough. But for now, the world still faces each day with not having enough water for everyone.

【题目】 How much do you know about the North Pole(北极) and the South Pole? They are both places with very cold temperatures and few people live there. However, the North and South Poles are not much alike as people may imagine.

The North Pole has no land, only thick ice. Temperatures seldom go above 32°F, at which water turns into ice. Most of the time, it stays below zero. In winter temperatures are usually as low as-30°F.

Although conditions were very poor, people tried for many centuries to reach the North Pole. 【题目】 Norm Pethrick, a 36-year-old man in Australia’s northern city Darwin, was praised on Thursday for jumping onto a crocodile’s back to save his wife Wendy at Litchfield National Park, a popular tourist spot southwest of Darwin, a local newspaper reported. Ms Pethrick was standing on a river bank Wednesday afternoon when the saltwater crocodile lunged(扑), locking its jaws on both her legs as it tried to drag her underwater.

Ms Pethrick was later taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for a medical treatment. The doctors said she was suffering eight puncture wounds (伤口) in her right leg, a puncture wound in her left leg and a serious cut to one of her fingers.

“This could have been a fatal and tragic situation,” said the general manager of Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH), Dr Len Notaras, according to a local report.

He said Ms Pethrick was saved by her husband’s “quick and diligent actions”.

Dr Notaras also said she would remain in hospital for three to four days and have an operation to clean the wounds, which are easy to get infected because of bacteria (细菌) on the teeth of the crocodile.

The bags are no harmful to the environment. Humans and animals can safely eat them. Indian company EnviGreen has made a bag with natural material. It looks and feels just like plastic, but can break down （分解）easily.

Ashwath Hedge who set up the EnviGreen company spent four years doing experiments with 12 natural material. They include potato, corn, vegetable oil and banana. He made the material into liquid and used the liquid to make the bag.

Although the EnviGreen bag is more expensive than a common plastic bag, but it has many advantages. According to the Wall Street Journal, it takes 1, 000 years for common plastic bags to break down. But an EnviGreen bag can naturally break down in less than 180 days. It also breaks down in less than a day in water, and in less than a minute in boiling water. Hedge was happy to show it in his interview with The Better India. In the interview, he put an EnviGreen bag in water and ate it with a smile.

There are more than 15, 000 tons of plastic waste every day. But only 9, 000 tons are processed. In China, 3 billion plastic bags are used every day. Maybe the EnviGreen hag could be a solution to the world problem of plastic pollution.
