【题目】 Language changes all the time. New words and phrases appear and grow. The words and pronunciations used by young people in the UK can be very different from those used by adults Living in a multi (多元的)-cultural society has an effect on language, especially on young people, whose friends are often from a mix of backgrounds. TV and music also influence the language of the young.

Young British people use lots of language that you usually can't find in most dictionaries. These very informal(不正规的) words and expressions are known as “slang”. It is not possible to make a complete list of modern British slang. By the time the list was finished, it would be out of date! However, here are a few examples:

“He's fine". And “He's fit ” both mean “He's good-looking”. Fine and fit can describe a boy or a girl.

Not everybody uses slang and not everybody likes it. A school in Sheffield, has recently required its pupils to stop using slang words such as hiya (hello), cheers and ta(both mean “thank you "). The head teacher says that If young people learn to speak“correctly”, this will help them get a place at university and a good job

So, how important is it to learn these slang words and expressions? 【题目】 Traveling is not always happy, at least for the buddies in the movie Green Book. The popular film won Best Picture at the 91st Academy Awards on Feb 25.

The movie was adapted from the true story of a road trip through the southern US in the early 1960s.

In the film, the black pianist Don Shirley hires Italian-American Tony Vallelonga to drive him to performances, but they face problems because of Shirley’s skin color. These problems lead them to form a special friendship.

“There’s something so deeply right about this movie, so true to the time,” wrote US film critic Mick LaSalle. The time LaSalle is talking about was between late 1870s and 1960s, a very different period in US history. Many parts of the country had Jim Crow laws (《吉姆·克劳法》), which allowed racial segregation (种族隔离). These laws made life and travel 39 for African-Americans. They couldn’t use certain hotels, restaurants, or even gas stations. They had to be indoors after sunset or they might be put into prison. Even black celebrities (名人) had to follow the laws.

But in 1936, a black mail carrier named Victor H. Green had an idea. He made a list of friendly businesses in New York City. He published the list as a small book with a green cover. The Green Book helped African-Americans travel more safely. Then, in 1964, Jim Crow laws went away. The book went away, too.

Today many US people still remember the time of Jim Crow. But they probably don’t know about The Green Book. It’s a forgotten part of the story. Thanks to this movie, maybe people can remember it again.
