Lots of people usually discard the skin when they eat fruit and vegeta?bles. However, the skin of some fruit can provide more nutrients (营养物) and health benefits.

Bananas―When you eat bananas, don't just throw away the peel. If you are feeling down and blue? it will help you to get into a lighter mood. Taiwanese researchers found out banana peel contains serotonin(血清素),a chemical that balances the mood. 丁o use it, simply boil banana skin in wa?ter for about 10 minutes. You can drink it when it's cool.

Citrus (W橘属类)fruit—I know lots of people love oranges and lem?ons. But they usually throw away the peel and just eat what's inside. The juice also contains antioxidants (抗氧化剂),but the peel has higher concen?tration (浓度)of them. In fact, the peel has 20 times more antioxidants than the content! Antioxidants help fight off the bad LDL cholesterol(低密度脂蛋白胆固醇).So if you want your body to be free of bad cholesterol, don't throw away all the orange peel !

Apples―I know a lot of people eat apples with their peel on. So, just a reminder: apple peel contains about 87 per cent more nutrients that help to fight cancer, according to a study by Comer University.

Potatoes—Potato skin is rich in nutrients like fibre, iron and vitamin C. Just wash the whole potato thoroughly and cook with the skin on, whether you are going to mash (捣碎)or bake the potato. In addition, potatoes help in preventing cancer and heart disease* since they also have antioxidants in them.

Sooner or later, most students are to take some form of English exami?nations. Often the more successful students are better prepared. However, sometimes students who do well have better test-taking skills. These abili?ties really have nothing'to do with understanding English better. They are skills that make taking the test easier, and therefore provide better results.

Here are some very important—and often ignored―guidelines to taking a test successfully.

Do not insist on completing each question before going to the next. This is extremely important. Remember one question raay only be worth one point! You will become nervous when you fail to find out its answer, making you lose your concentration and leading to worse results. However, answering the questions you are sur| you know the answers can make us more relaxed and confident.

Go through the test a second time working out the answers to more dif?ficult questions. Sometimes questions asked are answered in later questions asking for different things.

Usually a strong first impulse (冲动)means we know the answer and we don't really have to think about it too much, Going back to think about it usually makes you unsure and often causes a mistake. This is very common, so be very careful !

If you don't know the answer, write something. If you are answering a 4 possibility multiple choice question you will still have a 25% chance of be?ing correct!

Taking a test is as much for you as is for your teacher, so never cheat. If you cheat, you don't help yourself in the long run.

Children start out as natural scientists, and eager to look into the world around them. Helping them enjoy science can be easy; there's no need for a lot of scientific terms or expensive lab equipment. You only have to share your children's curiosity(好奇心).

Firstly, listen to their questions. I once visited a classroom of seven-year-olds to talk about science as a job. The children asked me "textbook questions" about teaching, salary and whether I liked my job. When I fin?ished answering, we sat facing one another in silence. Finally I said, "Now that we're finished with your lists, do you have questions of your own about science?" After a long pause, a boy raised his hand, "Have you ever seen a grasshopper (蚱艋)eat? When I try eating leaves like that, I get a stomach ache. Why?" This began a set of questions that lasted nearly two hours.

Secondly, give them time to think. Studies over the past 30 years have shown that, after asking a question, adults often wait only one second or less for an answer, no time for a child to think. When adults increase their "wait time" to three seconds or more, children give more logical(符合逻辑的),complete and creative answers.

Thirdly, watch your language. Once you have a child involved in a sci?ence discussion, don't jump in with "that's right" or "very good". These words work well when you encourage their good behaviour(行为).But in talking about science, quick praise can mean that discussion is over. In?stead, keep things going by saying " that's interesting" or " I've never thought of it in that way before" , or coming up with more questions or ideas.

Lastly, show but don't tell. Real-life impressions of nature are far more impressive than any lesson children can learn from a book or a televi?sion programme. Let children look at their fingertips through a magnifying glass(放大镜),and they'll understand why you want them to wash hands before dinner. Rather than saying that water evaporates (蒸发),set a pot of water to boil and let them watch the water level drop.

The world welcomes 2015! From New Zealand to New York, the world eagerly celebrates the New Year, hoping for a better future after a year of diseases, struggles and disasters.

The islands of Samoa mid Tokelau in the Pacific Ocean and places loca?ted near the International Date Line mark the dawn o£ the New Year. As celebrations spread westwards, fireworks lit up the night sky in towns and cities around the world, as celebrators partied on the streets.

In some parts of the world, the New Year's celebrations were rather unusual. In many European countries as well as in Coney Island, New York, swimmers braved freezing water temperatures for a dip in the ocean or lake on January 1. In Rome, Italy, divers jumped off the 59-foot-high Cavour Bridge into the Tiber River. Londoners rang in the New Year with a massive fireworks display with dozens of rockets lighting up the night sky. The Scots' celebration of New Year is also called "Hogmanay". A torchlight procession led by men dressed as Vikings kicks off four days of Hogmanay celebrations in Edinburgh, Scotland. The procession ends with the burning of a Viking long ship. Hogmanay is the Scottish word for the last day of the year. Street festivals are held on each day culminating in a fireworks dis?play.

In New York, hundreds of thousands gathered to witness a huge ball with more than 30, 000 lights descend at midnight. This tradition was adopted by The New York Times (aher whom the square is named)in 1908 to attract crowds to celebrate the paper's new headquarters.
