London used to be “foggy” for the same reason that cities like Beijing or Chongqing are “foggy” today. The “fog” was in fact smog, a mixture of smoke and fog. In other words, it was made by air pollution. In London, some of this pollution came from factories, but much of it came from the coal (煤) that people burnt in their houses to keep warm during the winter. By the 1950s, London’s smog problem had become so bad that the government decided to do something to clean the air. A new law was made and nobody could burn coal in any British city. Within a few years, the air became much cleaner. There were no more “pea-soupers”.
Many Chinese cities now face the same sort of problem with air pollution that London faced 40 or 50 years ago. However, this problem is more difficult for Chinese cities to solve. One reason is that more of the pollution comes from the factories, rather than from coal burnt in people’s houses. If these factories were closed, this would harm the economy and lots of people would lose their jobs. Another reason is that changing from coal to cleaner fuel (燃料), like gas, is quite expensive.
However, the air in many Chinese cities is becoming cleaner and cleaner, as the government and people pay more and more attention to cutting down pollution. As a result, there are fewer “pea-soupers” in Beijing than there used to be.

We know mosquitoes very well. Mosquitoes fly everywhere. They can be found almost all over the world, and there are more than 2,500 kinds of them.
No one likes mosquito. But the mosquito may decide if she loves you. She? Yes, she. The male(雄性) mosquito doesn’t bite! Only the female(雌性)mosquito bites because she needs blood(血)to lay eggs. She is always looking for things or people she wants to bite. If she likes what she finds, she bites. But if she doesn’t like your blood, she will turn to someone else for more delicious blood. Next time a mosquito bites you, just remember you are chosen. You’re different from others!
If the mosquito likes you, she lands on your body without letting you know. She bites you so quickly quietly that you may not feel anything different. After she bites , you will have an itch(痒) on your body because she puts something from her mouth together with your blood. When the itch begins, she has flown away.

Everywhere we look, there is colour. We see it in the sky and in the sea. There are colours in all plants and animals. Colour makes our homes and schools pretty. We see it in pictures and in books. We even see colour in our food. It makes things look good.
How can we see colour? We see colour when light hits(射入)our eyes. Dogs and many other animals can’t see colours. But bees(蜜蜂) can. They even see colours we don’t see. This helps them find flowers to fly to.

Animals come in all kinds of colours. Many of these are very pretty. An animal’s colour may say “here I am”., “stay away” or “be careful” or it may help the animal hide(隐藏). Some animals can make their colours look like the trees around them, then other animals or people can not find them.

China has banned (禁止) free plastic bags at shops and supermarkets, and people have to pay for using plastic bags. The rule started on June 1. It came because our country tried to make litter less. Making super-thin (超薄) plastic bags has also been banned.
The Chinese once used about 3,000,000,000 plastic shopping bags a day, and they have caused pollution of the environment.
