Oh, the things that I should see if I had the power of sight for just three days!

The first day would be a busy one. I should call to me all my dear friends and look long into their faces, imprinting(刻上) upon my mind the outside evidences of the beauty that is within them. I should also view the small simple things of my home. I want to see the pictures on the walls, the lovely small furniture that changes a house into home. My eyes would rest respectfully on the books in dot-raised type which I have read, but they would be more interested in the printed books which seeing people can read, for during the long night of my life the books I have read and those which have been read to me have built themselves into a great shining lighthouse, showing me the deepest channels of human life and the human spirit.

In the afternoon of that first seeing day, I should take a long walk in the woods and rest my eyes on the beauties of the world of Nature trying to enjoy in a few hours the brilliance(光辉)which is presenting itself to those who can see. On the way home from my woodland trip, my path would lie close to a farm so that I might see the patient horses working in the field and the peaceful men living close to the soil.

When darkness had fallen, I should experience the double joy of being able to see, thanks to the man-made light which man has created to enlarge the power of his sight when Nature brings darkness

【题目】(A) No one knows why we sleep, but it’s certain that we need to. People who are prevented from sleeping begin to suffer obvious effects (产生明显的反应) after a few days—they think less clearly, and they fall asleep during the working hours; some may have hallucinations (幻觉).

There are no rules about sleep. Generally speaking, grown-ups sleep about 7 and a half hours each night and probably more than 60 per cent get between seven and eight hours. But perhaps eight per cent are quite happy with 5 hours or less, and four per cent or so find that they want ten hours or more. (B)如果你感觉好的话, you’re probably getting enough sleep. The important thing is not to worry how much other people get—their needs may be different. Exercise doesn’t seem to increase the need for sleep—office workers, for example, sleep for about as long as people doing physically active work.

Children sleep more than grown-ups—perhaps 14 to 18 hours soon after birth, going down to grown-up levels by early teenage. Sleep patterns (睡眠模式) also tend (倾向) to be different in the elderly, who may sleep less at night than they did when younger, find sleep getting worse, and often make it a rule to sleep during the daytime.

Mushrooms are small living things that look like umbrella. They are not plants because they do not have the green material that plants use to make food. Mushrooms get their food from the living or dead plants around them.

A mushroom has two parts: the mycelium(菌丝体) and the fruit Mycelium is underground and gets food for the mushroom. Sometimes it dies quickly, but if it gets enough food it may live for hundreds of years.

The fruit, umbrella-shaped body, only lives for a few days. Gil(菌褶), small plants under the mushroom's cap, have small spores(孢子) on them When these spores fall off the mushroom the wind blows them away. If they fall on a warm, wet area a new mycelium develops.

Some mushrooms can be eaten with plenty of vitamin B and also minerals like iron. They are sold at high price. The best-known and most widely eaten is the button mushroom(草菇). They are found in all kinds of food, from pizzas to salads.

Truffles(松露) are mushrooms that grow completely underground. Dogs and pigs can find the places where they grow by using their noses. The mushrooms cost a lot of money and can be eaten in very expensive restaurants around the world.

Some types of mushrooms are poisonous(有毒的). They lead to illness and a few mushrooms are even deadly. One is a beautiful white mushroom which grows in summer and autumn, Unless you get quick treatment death may come very fast.

It's hard for people to tell between safe and poisonous mushrooms. So,never eat a mushroom you find unless you know what it is.

Mushrooms help plants grow. They help dead material and minerals get back into the soil so that it can be used again.

The Chinese have used mushrooms in medicine for hundreds of years. Some types are turned into a medicine that gives strength or energy. Scientists have found out that some mushrooms prevent high blood pressure(高血压).
