【题目】 A new study has found no evidence that sunscreen, commonly used to reduce the risk of skin caner, actually increases the risk.

Researchers from the University of Yale based their findings on a review of 18 earlier studies that looked at the association between sunscreen use and melanomas(黑素瘤). They said that they found flaws in studies that had reported associations between sunscreen use and higher risk of melanoma.

Most health experts believe that by protecting the skin from the harmful effects of the sun, sunscreen helps prevent skin cancer, which is increasing in incidence(发生率) faster than any other cancer in the United States.

But questions have been raised about sunscreen and whether it may have the opposite effect, perhaps by allowing people to remain exposed to the sun longer without burning.

The researchers said that among the problems with some earlier studies is that they often failed to take into account that those people most at risk for skin cancer—people with fair skin and freckles(雀斑), for example—are more likely to use sunscreen. As a result, it may appear that sunscreen users get cancer more often.

The studies, which generally relied on volunteers to recall their sunscreen use, were also unable to prove how well the products had been applied, said the new study.

【题目】 Have you ever seen a teenager or an adult riding a small bike? Perhaps it had posts sticking out from both sides of the wheels. 1

BMX(自行车越野) bikes have a lightweight frame and smaller wheels than other bikes. 2 The sport of BMX began when kids wanted to copy off-speed motorcycle race that were very popular. Today it is a sport with multiple disciplines.

3 It is an exciting, fast-paced event with off-road tracks, jumps and bends. Up to eight riders race at a time. BMX street riding takes BMX off the competitive stage, and into the city for some fun. The goal is to do as many creative tricks as possible in the environment. BMX park riding originated when people started using skate parks, empty pools or parking lots, discovering new ways to ride. Later, the style was recognized as a sport and parks were created specially for riders to practise in. Lastly, BMX flatland riding differs from all the rest. Flatland uses nothing but a flat surface where the rider balances and does dance-like tricks on the bike. 4 The posts are called pegs and they enable the rider to do more tricks. They can stand on them in flatland BMX or use them to grind(摩擦)or stall in other styles of BMX.

5 But in reality, it is a sport over 65 years old. Contests such as the X Games and the Summer Olympics are putting BMX back in the spotlight.

A.where did the thrilling sport start?

B.BMX racing is the original form of BMX.

C.They are designed to be fast and user - friendly.

D.It is more than a sport with multiple disciplines.

E.Today BMX is known as a sport for the risk-takers.

F.What you saw was likely not a children's bike, but a BMX bike!

G.Riders of this style of BMX use posts sticking out of their bike wheels.

【题目】Tips for Cycle Trips

Cycling has many advantages as a form of travel, as it is the fastest way to travel by human power, and slow enough to allow the type of local involvement that is impossible with powered travel. Cycle travel is a cheap form of transportation.

Distance

On level terrain(地形), without a headwind, a cyclist of average fitness on a touring bike can comfortably cover 60-120km a day. Distances of up to 250km a day are possible, but anything much beyond 120km will require considerable physical tension and not allow many stops to enjoy the places you visit. For many, 80-100km a day will be the most suitable distance to aim for, as it will give a sense of achievement and also leave plenty of time for meals and activities.

Geography

The gradient(坡度)of the trip will reduce your range. A basic rule is that for every 100 metres of altitude you climb, you should add an extra 15 minutes to your journey time. In hilly or mountainous areas, the easiest routes for cycling are downstream along major rivers, as overall they will be downhill. A long, roundabout route along a river will usually be easier than a short, direct route over a hill or mountain pass. However, it is worth bearing in mind that the most scenic routes often come from hilly terrain.

Eat

Food choice depends largely on where you are, so see the respective sections for more information about foods. As you will be working hard, it’s important to get enough energy in your food. On long trips away from major towns, there may be little quality food available, so be prepared to live on candy bars, prepared meat products and the like if the need arises.

Sleep

While you can take a tent with you, many hotels and especially campsites can accommodate cyclists. However, there are also some hotels that may be less used to accommodating cyclists. If you are exploring an unfamiliar place, asking about the accommodation spares you the search for a new place to stay after a long exhausting day of travel.

1Which of the following distance does the author suggest to ordinary cyclists a day?

A.90km.B.50km.

C.130km.D.250km.

2What can we learn from the passage?

A.Cycling over a mountain is challenging but worthy.

B.Hotels seldom provide accommodation for cyclists.

C.High quality food is easy to get on long trips.

D.It takes cyclists 15 minutes to climb 10m of altitude.

3Where can we probably read this passage?

A.In a geography book.B.In a research report.

C.In a travel magazine.D.In a science fiction.
