【题目】Do you know how it is when you see someone yawn and you start yawning too? Or how hard it is to be among people laughing and not laugh yourself? Well, apparently it's because we have mirror neurons (神经元)in our brains.
Put simply, the existence of mirror neurons suggests that every time we see someone else do something, our brains imitate (模仿)it, whether or not we actually perform the same action. This explains a great deal about how we learn to smile, talk, walk, dance or play sports. But the idea goes further: mirror neurons not only appear to explain physical actions, they also tell us that there is a biological basis for the way we understand other people.
Mirror neurons can undoubtedly be found all over our brains, but especially in the areas which relate to our ability to use languages, and to understand how other people feel. Researchers have found that mirror neurons relate strongly to language. A group of researchers discovered that if they gave people sentences to listen to (for example: "The hand took hold of the ball"), the same mirror neurons were triggered as when the action was actually performed (in this example, actually taking hold of a ball).
Any problems with mirror neurons may well result in problems with behavior. Much research suggests that people with social and behavioral problems have mirror neurons which are not fully functioning. However, it is not yet known exactly how these discoveries might help find treatments for social disorders.
Research into mirror neurons seems to provide us with even more information concerning how humans behave and interact(互动).Indeed, it may turn out to be the equivalent (相等物)for neuroscience of what Einstein's theory of relativity was for physics. And the next time you feel the urge to cough in the cinema when someone else does—well, perhaps you'll understand why.

1Mirror neurons can explain _____.

A. why we cry when we are hurt

B. why we cough when we suffer from a cold

C. why we smile when we see someone else smile

D. why we yawn when we see someone else stay up late

2The underlined word "triggered" in the third paragraph probably means “____”.

A. set off B. cut off C. built up D. broken up

3We can learn from the passage that mirror neurons _____.

A. relate to human behavior and interaction

B. control human physical actions and feelings

C. result in bad behavior and social disorders

D. determine our knowledge and language abilities

4What is the passage mainly about?

A. Ways to find mirror neurons.

B. Problems of mirror neurons.

C. Existence of mirror neurons.

We are all faced with challenges constantly in every area of our lives. 1

The truth is that you will have to deal with difficult problems throughout your life, whether it is in your personal life or career. Most of us get really afraid and run away from problems because we don’t want to accept reality. Running away from your problems is the worst thing you can do to deal with the challenges you are faced with. Here are some tips for you on learning how to deal with everyday challenges.

Please bear in mind that you shouldn’t overact when coming across challenges. Overacting to a problem will cause you to make bad decisions. 2Next time you are faced with a challenge, stay calm so you can make smarter decisions.

3If you cannot accept reality, you will feel very frustrated with your life. Once you can accept reality, you will be able to be calmer and think more clearly about how to get a step closer towards your goals every day.

Many people make a habit of blaming others for all their problems. They fail to take full responsibility for the decisions they have made in life. The more you blame others for the challenges you are faced with, the more you will make people dislike you and not want to be around you. 4

Don’t compare your lifestyle with others. Of course, it is really difficult not to compare ourselves with other people. However, the more often we do that, the more frustrated we will feel. 5The key thing to remember is that you create your own story and success in life.

A. Accept the reality of the present moment.

B. Try to look at change as a positive challenge, not as a threat.

C. There will always be a person that may have accomplished more than you.

D. Our focus may entirely be on how we can deal with the challenge that has come our way.

E. When we are not in control of our emotions, we will make decisions that we will regret later.

F. However, most people have a hard time accepting and dealing with these challenges that arise.

G. As a result, the first thing you should do when faced with a personal challenge is not point fingers at others.

【题目】Have you ever noticed that the more you have the more you want? Let’s face it. Thinking our life is good enough doesn’t come naturally to many people. When we have high expectations of everything in life we will run into disappointment. Only when we are aware that needs are different from desires can we live with satisfaction. Here are a few ideas to help you be happier with what you have and who you are.

Focus on what you are thankful for. Most people want things to be better than they are, or when things are going well, we forget to appreciate what we have. Learn to reflect on how much better things are than they could be. Focus on what you are thankful for. Write down 5 things you are grateful for right now.

When we hold onto regrets from decisions we have made, it can really poison our well-being. Many people regret something they can no longer change, which ends up holding them back from moving forward in a more positive manner. What happened in the past is done and gone, so work to stay present and be mindful of the current moment to find more joy and fulfillment.

When we use other people as the measuring stick for our personal success and quality of life we are likely to be less satisfied. Social comparisons can provide useful information when we try to learn from others, but they also hold our perspective in a discontented position. Compare yourself less with others so you can be satisfied more.

When you are focused on your big ambitions and future goals you might elide the daily pleasures that surround you. Learn to slow down and absorb the wonder and beauty around you. Stay present and focus on the task you’re undertaking at the moment. Don’t let the life pass you by because you’re always on the go and distracted by ambition.

Practice looking at life through the lens of contentment and it will become more natural.

1How can we live with contentment?

A. To change our lifestyle.

B. To have a motivation in life.

C. To give less attention to what we are grateful for.

D. To realize the difference between needs and desires.

2What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3?

A. Make wise decisions. B. Know the present situation

C. Let go of regrets. D. Remember the past.

3The underlined word “elide”(in Paragraph 5) probably means “__”.

A. enjoy B. change C. create D. neglect

4What should you do to put yourself in a good mood?

A. Make time for simple pleasures. B. Learn from successful people.

C. Focus on your future goals. D. Create chance to learn more.

【题目】阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。

A young lady was standing on the corner with a map in her hand. She looked puzzled. Several people passed by, looked at her but did not stop. I wondered why. Maybe it was because of the way she was dressed. She wore a dirty dress and looked pale.

As I crossed the street and came closer to her I asked if she wanted help. She thanked me and smiled in relief. As it turned out she was looking for the hospital. I felt wonderful just reaching out, and taking that extra moment to help.

Many times in these situations I end up walking a person to where he or she is going when giving directions would be too complicated. I like helping people this way due to my own experience. Many years ago, we travelled in Japan and needed directions. A kind Japanese who saw our problem came to us and helped us out. This man just took my heavy bags and guided us to where we needed to be. We could not speak any Japanese while the man could not speak any English. Although we could not communicate through words, we communicated through the heart.

Sometimes when I do a special favor for a stranger, the person will say, “I hope I can do something for you one day to return the favor.” They already have done something for me by giving me the opportunity to help them. But I hope that when they come across a situation where someone needs their help, they will be willing to reach out as well.
