February 4, Sunday Fine

This morning our class organized an environmental protection activity in the nearby park. On arriving there, we were divided into three groups .The first group collected the rubbish ,such as the waste paper ,cigarette ends ,plastic bags and so on. The second group set up several boards to remind the visitors to take care of the flowers and trees. The last group gave a speech to the visitors on the danger of ¡°white pollution¡± and the importance of protecting the environment.

I think it is very important for us to protect the environment .For the sake of people¡¯s health and happiness, measures should be taken to control and prevent pollution and everyone should make a contribution to it.

When Dan Shaw gets up from the sofa in his home£¬Cuddles is never far away. When he wants to go outside£¬he doesn't take Cuddles out for a walkCuddles takes him for a walk. Cuddles is clearly no ordinary family pet. It is a twofoothigh miniature horse and serves as the guiding eyes of Shaw£¬who is blind.

When Shaw lost his sight£¬his wife suggested he apply for a guide dog. Shaw£¬an animal lover£¬said he couldn't bear to part with a dog(which usually lives about eight to ten years)and get used to a new one£¬perhaps several times in his life.

Then Shaw heard of a program about the tiny guide horses. He learned that the horses possess many qualities that make them an excellent choice for guiding people. They are clean, friendly£¬smart and have great memories. They can be trained to remain calm in noisy and crowded places. Best of all£¬they live for 25¡«35 years£¬which would enable Shaw to have the same guide companion for most or all of his life.

Shaw immediately applied to be and was accepted as the first person to receive a guide horse. The instant he met Cuddles£¬he knew he was making the right choice. Then he began his training.

Through training£¬Shaw and Cuddles learned to find their way on busy streets£¬step over curbs(±ãµÀÑضù)and find elevator buttons. Cuddles even demonstrated(ÏÔʾ)its ability to step in front of Shaw and block him£¬to prevent him from walking into a dangerous situation. The little horse also expertly led Shaw through busy shopping malls. They got along without any difficulties. Now Shaw is confident that Cuddles will change his life for the better.

(2012ÄêÉòÑôÄ£Äâ) They're so young! What sets apart (Çø±ð) the new TV adaptation (¸Ä±à) of the classic novel A Dream of Red Mansions is the youthfulness of the players.

The producers made a great effort to bring in young actors. Most of them were born in the late 1980s and 1990s. At the same time, a team of 20somethings was given responsibility for adapting the novel for TV screens.

It is unusual for a director to pick a group of young people with little scriptwriting (д¾ç±¾) experience to take on such a big task. Most would expect the job to be given to more seasoned (¾Ñé·á¸»µÄ) writers.

¡°I understand why director Li Shaohong has taken this unusual approach£¬¡± writes movie critic Raymond Zhou in China Daily. ¡°She wants the drama to resonate (¹²Ãù) with today's young people.¡±

Besides giving the remake a youthful flavor, Li also wanted to go back to the original. The popular 1986 adaptation left out many important parts of the novel that were considered superstitious (ÃÔÐŵÄ) back then. For this adaptation Li wanted strict faith to A Dream of Red Mansions, to make sure young audiences will get a real sense of the novel.

However, since people know the 1986 adaptation so well, they compare the old and new shows. The costumes, makeup and scenery in new drama are controversial (±»ÕùÂÛµÄ). Nie Lina, 16, of Yantai No.1 High School in Shandong Province, believes it is a bad idea for actors to have such strange hairstyles. The actors remind me of Peking Opera performers, not people living in Qing Dynasty time. Li Youran, 16, of Nanjing Foreign Language School, complains the music is strange and some scenes are scary. She also believes the actors are not playing in the spirit of the characters.

But Zhou defends (º´ÎÀ) the remake as an attempt at faithful adaptation. The value of the adaptation of a novel should be judged (ÆÀ¼Û) by how faithful it is to the novel¡ªit shouldn't be judged against another adaptation. However, Zhou also argues that a director has the right to make his or her own work of art£ºan artist has the right to interpret (²ûÊÍ) a classic based on his or her own understanding...You may not like it, but you cannot deny (·ñÈÏ) him or her that right.
