【题目】阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

Right after the Second World War, Germany was in ruins. Almost all the houses, factories and schools were destroyed. Plenty of people were homeless as well as jobless. Worse still, the supply of water and electricity was often cut off in the city. Two American journalists interviewed a German family living in the basement. The husband was disabled from the war and the wife was just dismissed from a clothing company. Worse still, there were bills for them to pay—four children to care for and food to buy. Life was hard for them at that time.

After the interview, the journalists chatted with each other on the way back to the company.

“Do you think the Germans could rebuild their homeland?”

“Absolutely.”

“But I can’t see any hope for the country at all. How can you be so certain about that?”

“Have you noticed what they put on the table in the basement? There was a vase of flowers. A nation, suffering at such moment, hasn’t forgotten about flowers. It shows that hopes are not lost. They are still able to dream. A nation with hope can create miracles. They are sure to be able to rebuild their homeland.”

【题目】It is quite reasonable to blame traffic jams, the cost of gas and the great speed of modern life, but manners on the road are becoming terrible. Everybody knows that the nicest men would become fierce tigers behind the wheel. It is all right to have a tiger in a cage, but to have one in the driver's seat is another matter.

Road politeness is not only good manners, but a good sense. It takes the most cool-headed (头脑冷静的) drivers great patience to give up the desire to beat back when they are forced to face rude driving. On the other hand, a little politeness goes a long way towards reducing the possibility of quarrelling and fighting. A friendly nod or a wave of thanks in answer to an act of politeness helps to create an atmosphere of good will and becomes so necessary in modern traffic conditions. But such behavior of politeness is by no means enough. Many drivers nowadays don't even seem able to recognize politeness when they see it.

However, misplaced(用错了地方的) politeness can also be dangerous. A typical example is the driver who waves a child crossing the street at a wrong place into the path of oncoming cars that may not be able to stop in time. The same goes for encouraging old ladies to cross the road wherever and whenever they want to.

An experienced driver told me it would help if drivers learnt to correctly join in a traffic stream without causing total blockages( 拥堵) that give rise to unpleasant feelings. Unfortunately, modern drivers can't even learn to drive, let alone(更不用说) master the roadman ship ( 公路驾车技能). Years ago, experts warned us that the fast increase of the car ownership would demand more give and take( 互谅互让) from all road users. It is high time for all of us to take this message to heart.

A. traffic jams B. good manners

4It is not right for drivers to_________.

A. master the roadmanship

B. join in a traffic stream

C. give a friendly nod in answer to an act of politeness

D. encourage old ladies to cross the road whenever and wherever they want to

【题目】I love charity shops and so do lots of other people in Britain because you find quite a few of them on every high street. The charity shop is a British institution, selling everything from clothes to electric goods, all at very good prices. You can get things you won't find in the shops anymore. The thing I like best about them is that your money is going to a good cause and not into the pockets of profit-driven companies, and you are not damaging the planet, but finding a new home for unwanted goods.

The first charity shop was opened in 1947 by Oxfam. The famous charity's appeal to aid postwar Greece had been so successful that it had been flooded with donations. They decided to set up a shop to sell some of these donations to raise money for that appeal. Now there are over 7,000 charity shops in the UK. My favorite charity shop in my hometown is the Red Cross shop, where I always find children's books, all 10 or 20 pence each.

Most of the people working in the charity shops are volunteers, although there is often a manager who gets paid. Over 90% of the goods in the charity shops are donated by the public. Every morning you see bags of unwanted items outside the front of shops, although they don't encourage this, rather ask people to bring things in when the shop is open.

The shops have very low running costs, and all profits go to charity work. Charity shops raise more than £110 million a year, funding medical research, overseas aid, supporting sick and poor children, homeless and disabled people, and much more. What better places to spend your money? You get something special for a very good price and a good moral sense. You provide funds to a good cause and step lightly on the environment.

【1】The author loves the charity shop mainly because of ______.

A. its convenient location

B. its great variety of goods

C. its spirit of goodwill

D. its nice shopping environment

【2】 The first charity shop in the UK was set up to ______ .

A. sell cheap products

B. deal with unwanted things

C. raise money for patients

D. help a foreign country

【3】 Which of the following is TRUE about charity shops?

A. The operating costs are very low.

B. The staff are usually well paid.

C. 90% of the donations are second-hand.

D. They are open twenty-four hours a day.

Coral reefs

For millions of years, coral reefs have provided homes and food for thousands of different living things. Fish and sea birds share the reef with other sea creatures. Now these beautiful places are in danger. 【1】 Scientists have found that people and pollution have ruined more than one-fourth of the earth’s coral reefs. Unless things change, all of the remaining reefs may die within your lifetime.

Some people think that coral is stone because of its rough, hard surface. But coral is an animal! Tiny polyps (水螅体) form the coral reefs. 2 These colours come from the algae (海藻) living inside the coral. Billions of coral polyps stick together. New ones grow on the dead corals. This happens year after year. Over time, the coral builds up a reef. The reef rises from the ocean floor until it almost reaches the sea’s surface. It takes coral 500,000 years to build a huge reef. 3

The coral reefs have been harmed in different ways. People have broken off pieces of coral. They wanted to sell or keep them. To catch more fish, people have dropped sticks of dynamite (炸药) into the water. 4 Water pollution has encouraged overgrowth of the sea plants that grow near coral reefs. They block out the sunlight that the algae need. 5 Warm water kills the algae. When the algae die, the coral loses both its food and its color. The coral turns white and dies. Scientists call this coral bleaching (珊瑚白化). The bleached part of the coral reef cannot recover.

A. They come in many colours.

B. This has blown up parts of the reefs.

C. So are all the sea plants and animals that depend on them.

D. The worst problem is the heating up of the world’s oceans.

E. Coral reefs are experiencing a rapid increase in most locations.

F. However, it has taken human beings less than 100 years to destroy the reefs.

G. They cover less than 1% of the ocean floor, but support about 25% of sea creatures.
