If you feel stressed, what should you do? What you see, hear, taste, smell, and touch affects your stress level. The following are tips on how to please your senses to reduce stress.
Touch
There are many____(1)____to please your___(1)___of touch. For example: Give or receive a message. Pet your cat or dog. Hug somebody you love.
Hearing
(2) Reduce the noise around you and listen to relaxing music. Music is soothing(让人感到安慰的).CDs are available that offer sounds of nature to quiet the soul.
Sight
Why do we go on vacation? Usually because we need to relax, and see something new or different. Most of us live in crowded cities where our neighbors are within easy reach. We’re surrounded by buildings or highways-----not pretty sights. To please your eyes, go and find something beautiful and enjoy the view.
Taste
When you have a meal, do simply that: have the meal. Turn off the television, hang up the phone, stop working and focus only on the taste of the food you’re eating. You’ll enjoy your food so much more if you concentrate on enjoying it.
Smell
Burn scented (芬芳的)candles. Aromatherap(芳香疗法) scents have been proven to be relaxing. Try some oil scents.

Yours,
Alice
Hi Alice,
I think friendship is important in our lives. You should talk to your friend. Tell her you’re both studying and it’s common that sometimes you get a better grade and sometimes she does better. Tell her you’re going to compete(比赛) with her and try to beat her in every test . maybe you can tell her that if she beats you, you’ll buy her some chocolate or something like that. If you can make your schoolwork into a game, you’ll both win in the long run (从长远看), and you will both start to get better grades in your subjects. Several weeks ago, our headmaster, Mr. Gaudi, told us that our school had been chosen to compete on Smart Aleck—a game show which my best friend Carla and I   16  love. Carla has a good imagination, and I know a lot of history, so we thought we’d be good   17 for the team.
A few days later, Mr. Gaudi held a meeting with everyone interested in the   18 . He told us that Smart Aleck uses a five-member team. He also said that three more people would be needed as backup(替补).  19 , four times that many students were at the meeting. So Mr. Gaudi said we would have a   20 and the top eight scorers(得分者) would become the team and the backup. Everybody agreed that this was a   21 way to decide.
Yesterday, all of the hopefuls went to the dining hall after school. We would have to decide the starting line-up(阵容). Mr. Gaudi acted as the host. After a few hours, all the   22 on the team were chosen except one. Carla and I tied(打成平手) for that last position. We had to hold a one-on-one competition   23 the two of us. The winner would be on the team and the loser would be the backup.
Midway through our two-person competition, I was starting to pull ahead(领先).  24 I saw the look on Carla's face. I waited for a second and knew what I had to do. As much as I wanted to be on Smart Aleck, Carla wanted   25 even more. So, starting with my next question, I held back and let Carla   26 , just by a little bit. She felt sorry for my not being on the team as she   27 she would be on the show. And since I will go as backup, I’ll still have the fun of   28 the show up close.
Was I cheating(欺骗) by not trying as hard as I could? I don’t think so. No one noticed, and Carla and I didn’t   29 it. It won’t hurt the team   30 Carla will be a very good competitor on the real show. I think that making my best friend happy was the right thing to do.

I’m seventeen. I worked as a box boy at a supermarket in Los Angeles. People came to the counter (柜台) and I put things in their bags for them and carried things to their cars. It was hard work.
While working, I wore a plate with my name on it. I once met someone I knew years ago. I remembered his name and said, “Mr. Castle, how are you?” We talked about this and that. As he left, he said, “It was nice talking to you, Brett.” I felt great, he remembered me. Then I looked down at my name plate. Oh, no. He didn’t remember me at all, he just read the name plate. I wish I had put “Irving” down on my name plate. If he’d have said, “Oh yes, Irving, how could I forget you?” I’d have been ready for him. There’s nothing personal here.
The manager and everyone else who were a step above the box boys often shouted orders. One of these was: you couldn’t accept tips(小费). Okay, I’m outside and I put the bags in the car. For a lot of people, the natural reaction(反应)is to take a quarter and give it to me. I’d say, “I’m sorry, I can’t.” They’d get angry. When you give someone a tip, you’re sort of being polite. You take a quarter and you put it in their hand and you expect them to say, “Oh, thanks a lot.” When you say, “I’m sorry, I can’t.” they feel a little put down. They say, “No one will know.” And they put it in your pocket. You say, “I really can’t.” It gets to a point where you almost have to hurt a person physically to prevent him from tipping you. It was not in agreement with the store’s belief in being friendly. Accepting tips was a friendly thing and made the customer feel good. I just couldn’t understand the strangeness of some people’s ideas. One lady actually put a tip in my pocket, got in the car, and drove away. I was puzzled and didn’t know what to do. Should I d have had to throw the quarter at her or eaten it or something?
I decided that one year had been enough. Some people needed the job to stay alive and fed. I guess I had the means and could afford to hate it and give it up.
