【题目】 In China, giant pandas are considered a national treasure. People make a great effort to protect them. Now, the blackandwhite bears that live in the wild are going to be given a big new “home”. China is creating a reserve for them. The reserve will cover an area of 27,134 square kilometers.
Around 1,864 pandas now live in the wild. Their main threat is the loss of habitat (栖息地). The new park will link up 67 existing panda reserves across Gansu, Shaanxi and Sichuan. Scientists hope the effort will help the pandas get together, find mates (配偶) and produce babies. And the park will not just protect the giant pandas. It will also help protect more than 8,000 endangered animals and plants in the area.
Chinese scientists have tried many ways to protect the giant pandas. They have also spent a lot of time researching how they breed(繁殖). Their main aim is to increase the number to 2,000 by 2025. Hou Rong is the director of the Chengdu Research Base for Giant Panda Breeding (成都大熊猫繁育研究基地). He said the new park would be a great place for all kinds of animals and plants to live in. “Many scientists and experts support the building of a national park,” he added.
David Wildt is an experienced biologist from the United States. He said China had done a good job on protecting pandas. Experience in the past had shown how much a national park could do for a country. “Now,_it's_time_to_see_if_the_same_method_will_work_in_China,” he added.
