Earthquake

Some countries, such as Japan, have a large number of earth quakes.Earthquakes happen very 1 and violently(膿倉仇).During an earthquake, there is often a great 2 first. Then the earth 3 terribly, many houses 4 ,railway tracks break and trains run 5 lines,a great many factories are 6 ,thousands of deaths are caused, and many more lose homes´ 7 the great damage and deaths caused by the earthquake 8 ,other disasters such as fires often 9 ,more buildings destroyed and more 10 caused.

It is well known of the 11 of a possible earthquake, and for centuries man has been making researches(冩梢) on earthquakes.More than 2000 years ago, 12 ,a Chinese scientist named Zhang Heng 13 a machine which could detect(窟状) earthquakes, and this machine is still 14 by scientists today to detect and measure the 15 of earthquakes. Now we know much more about earthquakes and 16 they happen, but we still 17 tell exactly when and where an earthquake will happen, 18 cannot stop it from happening. So earthquakes are 19 the worst disasters(墻佃)in the world.

No one can stop 20 earthquakes. However, scientists can 21 stop earthquakes destroying whole cities and causing too many deaths. In those 22 where earthquakes often happen, they 23 mountain temperatures and take 24 from the air and if anything starts to happen ,they warn governments to be prepared for 25 disasters so that emergency(諸識) plans are put into action to lessen(受富) the disaster, probably saving many lives.

A friend of mine met with an accident driving in darkness. His legs were so hurt that he couldn¨t move. What was the 36 was he found himself unable to ask for help-his mobile phone went out of 37 as a result of exhausted battery. Nothing could be done but to

38 in cold wilderness. It was 8 hours later that day broke, and then the 39 of the rescue.

It is almost 40 that he could stand the horror in the darkness for so long. Even more surprising was his 41 : ^First of all I checked up my 42 conditions and found myself not in fatal danger. As there was no 43 to call for help, I leaned back in my seat trying my best to keep the wound from 44 . In this way I dozed (嬉迴) off. ̄

His story put an end to my regret for the 45 of an exploration adventure that happened last year. A group of young men 46 to explore a mountain cave and got lost.

47 to find a way out in the dark cave they were frightened and ran anxiously without a sense of 48 . Finally they fell dead in fear and exhaustion. According to the 49

people that found them, the place where they got lost was only about 10 meters away from the

The Brick

About ten years ago, a young and very successful manager named Josh was travelling down a Chicago neighborhood street. He was going a bit fast in his 1 car.

He was watching for kids rushing out from between parked cars. 2 his car passed, no child rushed out, but a brick did and WHUMP! It 3 his shiny black side door! Josh 4 out of his car, grabbed the kid and pushed him up 5 a parked car. He shouted at the kid,^ 6 was that all about and who are you? Just what are you doing? ̄He went on with 7 ^That's my new Jaguar, that brick you threw is going to cost you a lot of money. Why did you throw it? ̄

^Please, mister, please´I'm 8 ! I didn't know what else to do! ̄ 9 the youngster.^I threw the brick 10 no one else would stop! ̄Tears were dripping down the boy's chin as he 11 around the parked car.^It's my brother, mister, ̄he said.^He rolled 12 the sidewalk and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't 13 him up. ̄Sobbing, the boy asked the manager,^Would you please help me get him 14 into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me. ̄

15 beyond words, he lifted the young man back into the wheelchair and took out his handkerchief 16 wiped the cuts, checking to see that everything was going to be OK. He then 17 the younger brother push him down the sidewalk toward their home.

It was a long and slow walk back to his expensive car. Josh 18 did fix the side door of his Jaguar. He kept the damage to 19 him not to go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at him to get his attention. Pay 20 to the bricks of life coming at to you.
