My school holds a sports meeting in every year, which usually lasts three days. All of our students are fond of it because we don’t need to have classes. According to an official video by the Chinese Education Ministry’s Language Com mission, among the more than 130 languages spoken in China, 68 of them are spoken by less than 10,000 people; and 25 by under 1,000.

Hu Shuning, a dialect preservationist, said, “I think it is natural with a society’s development that a dominant language appears, but from a cultural aspect I think dialects are still important, because they reflect cultural diversity.”
