One possible version:

Dear MR. Smith,

I’m Li Hua, a Chinese student, having finished the National College Examination. I am planing to apply for the Cambridge Summer Session 2014. Now I’m writing to ask several questions concerned.

Firstly, I’m curious to know about the courses. How many courses will you offer in all and what subjects will it cover? Since I major in English, I would very much like to take some courses related to English literature and culture. I also want to know the schedule of these courses to see whether I’ll have time to visit other places in Britain on weekends. So I would appreciate it if you could forward a course plan to me?

Secondly, do you provide boarding during the Summer Session? Are all the students living on campus or will you arrange home-stay?

Thank you in advance! Looking forward to your reply!

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua

Firstly, I’m curious to know about the courses; I also want to know;Secondly等。其次文章第一段开门见山,I’m Li Hua, a Chinese student, having finished the National College Examination.使用同位主语,简单地介绍了自己,第二句话和第三句话表明写作意图,简单明了。正文部分结构清晰,对出题者的要求也都包括在内。文中用不同的结构表达相同的意思这一点做的很好,如I’m curious to know about the courses.,I also want to know the schedule of these courses, I would very much like to,So I would appreciate it if you都属于请求类的语言。不同句式的转换使得文章生动且词汇量丰富。这也是文章的一大两点。

It is a wonderful morning, as I write this: hot, but without being too hot.Outside my window, I can see the sunniest sky of the year reflected in a huge natural expand of water. It is the kind of sun that makes you well aware of summer's temporary nature a reminder that if I am ever to go around to book this year's holiday, time is running out.

It is now close to four years since I last took a holiday. This is because I have come to the conclusion, over the course of my adult life, that I am not very good at it.You might say this sounds like saying you are not very good at drinking tea or listening to music. What could possibly be difficult about the natural act of putting your working life on hold for a couple of weeks and going somewhere to do nothing?

So what is my problem? On the surface, I'm probably a bit of homebody. And I just find the pressure of being on holiday too severe: it always feels like having a gun held to my head and being forced to have fun.Somehow, packing a carefully itemized(详细列举的)list of possessions and meeting a scheduled flight has none of the excitement of suddenly deciding to take a day off and driving somewhere for the fun of it.

Thankfully, I am not alone. This summer, most of my friends have decided not to have a break. And a recent survey highlighted the downside(负面)of holidays, with the results showing that nearly two thirds of people found that the calming effects of a holiday wore off within 24 hours, as stress levels returned to normal. And this year's the Idler magazine published its hook, Awful Holidays. Here you will find a list of the five most ecologically-damaging vacations it's possible to take, along with 50 horrible holidays experiences voted for on the idler website. Over the last decade, The Idler has become well known for promoting the idea of an easy, lazy life. The leisure(休闲)industry might seem an unlikely target of its criticism, but Dan Kienan, the book ' s editor, says that he was flooded with entries from readers for his list of awful holidays.

This was my grandmother's first Christmas without grandfather, and before he passed away we had promised grandfather that we would make this her best Christmas ever. When my parents and I at her house, we found she had waited up all night for us. The house did seem a little without grandfather.

Grandfather had always said that the Christmas was the most important decoration of all. So we immediately set to work on the beautiful artificial tree that was stored in grandfather's closet (壁橱). Through our efforts, we finally stepped back to our handiwork. It looked beautiful. something was missing.

"Where's your star?" I asked.

The star was my grandmother's favorite part of the tree.

"Why, it be here somewhere," she said, starting to sort through the boxes again. "Your grandfather always everything so carefully when he took the tree down."

As we emptied the boxes and no star, my grandmother's eyes filled with tears. Grandfather had given it to grandmother some fifty years ago on their first Christmas together. It brought them great happiness. Now, on her first Christmas without him, the star was , too.

"Don't worry, Grandmother," I her. "We'll find it for you."

My mother and I formed a search . "Let's start in on the closet where the ornaments (装饰品) were," Mother said. "Maybe the star just fell out of the box."

That sounded , so I began to search the closet. I thought I tried every , but no star. I could see grandmother was , although she tried not to show it.

"What’s in this wrapped box?” Mother suddenly called out. "It was at the bottom of father’s closet."

Grandmother took the box in and opened it. Her face when she unfolded the paper and pulled out a golden star. There was a(n) attached.
