SHAOXING, East China, May 16(Xin Hua)－The Olympic torch relay(火炬接力)will start in Shaoxing on Saturday, which is known as one ancient Chinese culture city with a history of over 4,000 years．

　　Shaoxing is also the hometown to many outstanding persons such as Cai Yuanpei, Lu Xun and Zhou Enlai．Chairman Mao Zedong once wrote a poem, praising Shaoxing as the“home of famous names”．

　　The relay, planned to kick off at 15∶40 Saturday, will set out from Da Yu Ling．It is the resting place of Da Yu, an ancient hero who succeeded in dealing with the great flood(洪水)．

　　Along the route, the torch will also pass by Da Tong School, Ying En Gate, the Chinese Yellow Wine Town and Native residence(故居)of Mr Lu Xun．According to the plan, the relay will end at about 18∶40．

　　“You can know the history of Shaoxing when you walk along the route,”said Shan Guoquan, the person who planned the route．

　　According to Shan, Da Tong School was the earliest school in China that specialized(专门从事)in sports teaching and training．It was built from a place which used to be an exam center in ancient times．

　　Ying En Gate, Shaoxing's ancient water city gate, was built in 1626．It was in the busiest and richest area 100 years ago．

　　The Chinese Yellow Wine Town told us the cultures of the popular drink among the people in Shaoxing for centuries．

　　Native residence of Mr Lu Xun is built to remember Lu Xun, a great writer and thinker in China．

　　“Just as a time tunnel(隧道), the Olympic torch relay route tells us the history of Shaoxing,”said Shan．

　　Liu Ting is a student of Zhejiang Forestry College．One month after he went to the college, he rented a house outside the school and took his mother there．In this small room, they began their new life．Every morning, as soon as Liu Ting gets up, he takes his mother's blood pressure(血压)-After that, he makes breakfast and then goes to school．In order to manage daily cost, he has a part-time job in the school's canteen(食堂)．Thanks to this job, he can have free dinners and get 50 yuan a month．Besides, he is allowed to bring meals to his mother from the canteen every day．

　　From then on, Liu Ting's story was known by his classmates and teachers．Even more people knew his story after it was reported on TV．People donated over 200, 000 yuan in order to treat his mother's illness．In late 2005, a hospital in Shanghai agreed to operate(手术)on his mother．Now his mother is getting better and better．Liu donated the rest 40, 000 yuan to set up a fund(基金)to support other poor college students．

　　Liu Ting said,“I know that there are people who have a better life．I just try my best to control my life and make it better．I'll take part in more charity activities to express my thanks to society．I am very happy when helping others．”

　　Monty Roberts was the son of a poor family．He liked horses．He had a dream to own a horse ranch ever since he was a little child．

　　Monty kept his dream and worked very hard．Today he owns a large horse ranch with a big house on it, and he keeps that school paper he wrote on the wall of his sitting room．

　　Most supermarkets in China provided free plastic bags．It was convenient for people to do shopping, but things changed．To protect the environment, supermarkets all over China stopped providing free plastic bags from June 1, 2008．If you don't want to pay money to buy them, you'll have to bring your own shopping bags．

　　What can we use to hold things we buy from shops?Students at Qing-shan Middle School had some good ideas．One idea was making different kinds of eco-shopping bags．54 students at that school made their own eco-shopping bags．They held an eco-shopping bag show last Friday afternoon．Many students made the bags with used clothes．They painted pictures like the Olympic rings on them．Some bags were made of used materials like used paper, old newspapers．Some were made of eco-materials like bamboo．

　　A boy student, Wang Lin, made his bag with several old newspapers．We asked him whether the bag was strong enough．Wang Lin said it was．“No problem．I took six bottles of water in the bag from the shop to my home yesterday evening,”he said．“I think it's strong enough to hold even ten bottles of water．”

　　Fang Yuanyuan, a girl student, had a more traditional way to make her bag－a bamboo basket．“It was a hard job,”she said．“With my grandfather's help, I spent a whole afternoon making it．”

　　The students also asked their parents and friends to use eco-shopping bags instead of plastic ones．Next Saturday afternoon, the school will hold another eco-shopping bag show to help shops and stores get ideas from the students' work．

　　Could you be a genius like Einstein?A genius needs to learn and think．Reading is a good idea, but it is not enough．Einstein's advice is to use your brain more．Here are some tips：

　　Taking away a city's rubbish is a big job．Every day trucks come into a city to collect it．Most rubbish is made up of things we can't eat or use．If we kept these things we would soon have a mountain of rubbish．

　　In some cities the rubbish is collected and taken outside of city to a dump．Often the city dump is placed where the ground is low or there is a big hole．The kitchen rubbish is broken into small pieces and sent into the sewage system．The sewage system takes away the used water from toilets, bathtubs and other places．

　　To keep mice and flies away, some earth is used to cover the newly dumped rubbish．Later, grass may be planted on the rubbish-filled land．Finally, a house or a school may be built there, and then you'd never know that this had once been an old rubbish dump．

　　In other cities the rubbish is burnt in special places．The fire burns everything but the metal．Sometimes the metal can be used again in factories where things are made of metal．The food parts of rubbish are put in special piles where they slowly change into something called hurnus, which looks like black earth．It is rich with the kinds of things that feed plants and help them grow．
