【题目】 Canada, Mexico and the United States won their joint bid(联合申办) to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the 68th FIFA Congress. This is the first World Cup to be hosted in three countries. The joint bid, called United 2026, won 134 out of the total 203 votes.

Football officials(官员) from the three countries cheered for the news. They said,“It is an important moment to show that we are all truly united through sport. And they are ready to welcome the world to North America and do everything they can for the largest FIFA World Cup in history.”

Morocco also wished to host the 2026 World Cup. But the north African nation only got 65 votes, with a score of 2.7 out of 5.0 when checking their ability to host the World Cup while the United 2026 got 4.0 as they have more support from their countries and are better able to cover the cost.

Among the four countries, the US hosted a World Cup in 1994 and Mexico held twice in 1970 and in 1986. The World Cup has never been held in Canada or Morocco. Unluckily, it was the fifth time that Morocco had failed to host a World Cup.

There is also good news for all football fans The 2026 Word Cup will see more teams playing in it, with 48 teams and a total of 80 matches, compared to the 32 teams and 64 matches of the World Cup in Russia. Maybe the Chinese football team will make it in 2026!

【题目】 Many Chinese girls love "small, fresh meat", which refers to young, effeminate(女人气的) male stars. However, not everyone is a fan of them. On Sept. 6, an article described some male stars as too effeminate.

This came after CCTV was criticized for inviting several young male stars to perform on First Class for the New Semesteran educational TV show for primary and secondary school students, which aired 5days earlier. After that, many parents left comments online, saying the stars in the show had a bad influence on their children.

The popularity of effeminate male stars is partly down to the influence of Japanese and South Korean pop culture, an expert told China Daily. However, the “femininity” of males isn't a recent social phenomenon. In fact, being effeminate was popular among Chinese men centuries ago.

Indeed, the debate about effeminate male stars has been going on for a while. In July, a Hong Kong singer said during the singing reality show Sing! China that he feels tired of seeing effeminate male stars. “It isn't that they're not good, but we should discover ourselves.”He said during the show.

His opinion was shared by a Chinese director. “Some young actors are feminine and they should be more manly,” he said.

Deng Xiquan, head of the Youth Research Institute at the China Youth and Children Research Center, believes such a phenomenon is completely natural.“It will be replaced by a new youth culture at some stage. If a man has feminine beauty, this doesn't mean that he lacks responsibility,” Deng told China Daily. Deng's opinion was echoed by the People's Daily.“A man's strength should be judged on the basis of their inner qualities - not their phyical apperance,” it wrote.

【题目】 The stereotype(模式化的思想) is that Americans are lazy, but studies show that people in the USA get less vacation time than people in other parts of the world. A typical American worker gets two or three weeks off out of a whole year for vacation, but most US workers cannot. They usually have to be spread out throughout the year. Even when US workers are on vacation. they are often expected to be in communication with their bosses by email and mobile phone. Most US businesses do not encourage their employees(雇员) to take all the vacation days they are allowed to. In fact. most US companies discourage it.

Other countries, especially countries in Europe, have much more vacation time. In Germany many people have six weeks of paid vacation. Maybe this is why Europeans and other travellers take a vacation in far-off foreign places. Most American families like to stay closer to their homes, hardly leaving the country.

Most companies in countries outside the USA have to give paid time off to their employees. However, in the USA there is no law requiring employers to give workers paid vacation. In fact the USA is the only developed country that doesn't promise to give yearly time off to workers. There have been efforts to pass laws giving US workers one week of paid vacation, but so far those efforts have not been successful.

There are so many expressions in American English that sound pleasant but are not. 1 When someone says they have to "face the music", it does not mean they are going to a concert. "Facing the music" means to accept and deal with the punishment (惩罚)of an action.

2. For example, "I can't face another night of camping! It's cold and rainy." Or "In life, you must face your fears." Face used in this way is very common. But now, let's go back to facing the music. Imagine a friend asks you to take care of her beautiful red sports car. She gives you the keys and says, "Thanks so much for watching my car while I'm away. But please, do not drive it. It is an extremely (极其) fast car." 3. You want to show off to some friends. So, you drive it around town one night. As bad luck would have it, you lose control of the car and drive it into a stop sign. Bang!

When your friend returns, you must tell her what you have done and "face the music". 4. It could be losing her friendship or paying for repairs to her sports car or both. Whatever the music is, you must face it.

5. To "take your medicine" means to accept the results from something bad you have done. And if someone says, "You made your bed. Now lie in it." they mean you created a bad situation and now you will experience the results!

A.But you do not listen.

B. "Face the music" is a good example.

C. The "music" here is the result of your actions.

D. However, you think the music is wonderful and you can sing very beautifully.

E. There are other American expressions that mean the same thing as "face the music".

F. Americans often use the word "face" in this way
