Americans think much about time. From childhood(童年) they learn to value(珍视) time. Parents tell children to be on time to go to school, to work and to do everything. In his free time, he also works hard for more money. Even on Saturday and Sunday he also works hard as usual. In the street you can hardly see a man walking slowly. They walk very fast. In fact , they are running.

They love time because time can bring them money and lots of things. But sometimes they also hate time, because they feel they have become servants(仆人) of the clock.

My sister Alli and I always try to stop people dropping cigarette butts(烟蒂) everywhere. We have done this for seven years.

One day, we were walking in our hometown and saw hundreds of cigarette butts on the ground. They made the town look so dirty that we decided to start a group to make people stop dropping cigarette butts. We called it “No Butts About It”.

At first, we drew pictures with letters “The earth is not your ashtray(烟灰缸)” on them. We put up the pictures in our hometown—in parks, on walls, and along roads. We wanted to make people understand that dropping butts did harm to the earth.

Most smokers don't think that dropping butts harms the earth. But it does! All rubbish does. Later, we wrote to factories and offices and asked them for money to buy ashtrays and gave them to smokers. We wanted smokers to carry the ashtrays with them so they didn't have to drop butts.

Now we are trying to get cigarette companies to put an ashtray in each pack of cigarettes. Some companies would do it.

Many people have started to join our group since it began. Today there are 45 other groups of “No Butts About It” in America. And there are also groups in England, Australia and India! Many newspapers have written about my sister and I over the last seven years. And we have won many prizes for our good work.

But we are not interested in prizes. We just want to make the earth a better and cleaner place for animals, plants and people. One day it will be.

Recycled plastic bottles have been used to make a house, but now Robert Bezeau from Canada is building a village with plastic bottles.

The amazing village, called Plastic Bottle Village, is deep in the jungles of an island in Panama. There are going to be 120 houses in the village. And each house needs thousands of plastic bottles.

According to experts, over 22, 000 plastic bottles are thrown away every second, and the number is growing. Where are they?Where do they go?Most of the plastic waste goes to the ocean. What's worse, it is always eaten by fish and birds. It is bad for their health.

Plastic Bottle Village is a very smart idea to turn the plastic waste into houses, and the ocean will be cleaner.

The village is in the jungles. They are very cool in temperature, so there is no need to use expensive energy for air conditioning in summer. What's more, the houses are “green”. And everything will be as environmentally friendly as possible.

“We are changing the world, without changing the earth, one house at a time, ” says Robert.
