I was bom in Newcastle,a city in the north-east of England. Newcastle is on the banks (岸) of the Jliver Tyne. In the 11th century,a “yw castle(城堡) ” was built there, which gave the city its name.

Today Newcastle is one of Britain's biggest cities, with a population of about 290,000. 50 years ago,it was very industrial. The main industty on the Tyne was shipbuilding, but now, ftis river,Which was once crowded with ships,is lined with modem hotels, bars and restaurants.

There are many bridges over the Tyne. They connect Newcastle with the next town,Gateshead. One of them is the Millennium Bridge, which was built in 2001. It is very beautiful. Next to it is the famous Baltic Art Centre,a place for art and artists. They produce many of their paintings and sculptures there.

I moved from Newcastle ten years ago but I often return. I miss the people, who are so warm and friendly, and I miss the wild, beautiful countryside to the north of the city. I also miss my favorite sculpture,uThe Angel of the Northw, which greets you as you arrive in the North East.

People who are bom near the River Tyne have a special name. They are called “Geordies”. I am very pleased to be a “Geordie”!

All over the world, children in hospital are getting a new kind of medicine: . Lucy works for Theodora Children s Trust. She is one of many clown (小丑) doctors who bring a smile to the faces of sick children.

I'm a clown doctor. I call myself Dr LooLoo. I spend two days a week in children’s hospitals with my friend Dr Chequers. We make firnny faces, tell jokes, and do magic tricks. As I walk into a ward (病房) , I shake hands with the kids and sing songs. We take special balloons to make “balloon animals” and tell firnny stories about them. We often meet kids who look really sick at first, then we go back the next week and they,re running about shouting “Hi there,Dr LooLoo!Hi Dr Chequers!”

Im naturally a very cheerful person. Ive always been a clown. In fact my father is a clown and I started working with him when I was eight years old. I knew it was just the job for me. I became a clown doctor because I think it's a great way to cheer up sick children in hospital.

At lunchtime we eat in the hospital dining hall and that’s really useftil because we meet the nurses and doctors. They tell us about some kids who they think will benefit(获益) from a down doctor's visit. For example,if a child is afraid, perhaps he's being given an injection(注射) or some medicine,we11 visit him and take his attention, then the nurse can do her job.

At about six oclock,Dr Chequers and I change our clothes. Were very tired. On weekends we are often asked to take part in events to raise money for Theodora Children's Trust. Being a clown doctor is very tiring, but it makes the worries of everyday life, seem small. All in all,I feel lucky to do this job.
