Nowadays, genetically modified ( GM,转基因) food is more and more familiar to most people around the world. Genes are a mysterious field in science. Some people think GM food is good for humans;others don't think so. Let's read about their opinions.

Wang Zhu,14, from Jiangsu:

I don't think GM food is bad for people. If we grow GM food,we will have much more food. There are now thousands of people suffering (忍受) from hunger around the world. Lack of food is the basic problem. Growing GM food can help improve the quality of life.

Liu Shenbo,15, from Shanghai:

GM food is good. But we need to control it. Now nobody knows what it would do to our health. If we eat too much GM food,we might regret it. I think we should do more experiments before widely using it. That's safe for us and the next generation.

Qin Le,14, from Shandong:

GM food should not be used at all. It changes the genes of grain (谷物) . All plants grow by the law of nature. If we change it,it's like we are against nature. Nothing good could happen. So we should do some research about how to change the earth for growing crops, but not change the crops themselves. That should be the right way to solve the food problem.

When it's time to teach our kids good manners (礼貌) ,do we realize the basic manners we should teach them?

If your kid is hungry,he must ask by saying, " May I have something to eat?” That's proper manners. Saying "Thank you" when he receives the food is also necessary. If he breaks something,it's important to say, " Fm sorry."

Kids must know it's not right to make fun of others. They must be taught that it's impolite to laugh at others’ looks or weight, and they shouldn’t say something like " You’re boring. " In fact,if you have nothing nice to say,it's better to say nothing.

Sometimes kids may not seem to pay attention to how to greet guests. So they must be taught to greet even a stranger at home with a smile and a word of greeting. Shaking hands and making eye contact (接触) are also important. Without saying hello to somebody who has come will certainly be considered impolite. Besides, when the guests are leaving, the kids should smile and say goodbye.

Children may not mean to disturb anybody's privacy (隐 私) .However, they have to be taught to knock before entering anyone's room. These basic manners have to be taught at home.

Stopping another person when he is speaking or cutting in on him midway is impolite. Kids must know that they can have their turn when other people finish talking. Also, paying full attention to what is being said and keeping eye contact are important things that need to be remembered.

Last but not least, kids usually learn by watching their parents,so set a good example to them.
