English habits
I have an English friend. One day I came to see him. He invited me to dinner. At table Englishmen had their good manners. To accept a dish was by saying, “Yes, please.”To decline (谢绝) it was by saying, “No, thanks .”When eating they made little noise.
After dinner he went upstairs to change his clothes. But he did not come back. After a while I went upstairs and found him i n bed asleep. That was his habit.
Habits are very strong. If a man by habit says”Thank you”and”please”,it is easy for him to be polite. If a man smokes a great deal, it becomes very difficult for him to stop. A language is also made of habits. So we should form good habits of reading and speaking English.
(1)In England, the usual way to take a dish is by saying”Yes,please”. And to refuse it by saying”No,thanks”.
(2)It is bad manners to make much noise when eating.
(3)When we say”Habits are very strong”we mean it is very difficult to change a habit.
(4)Different languages have different habits.
(5)It is very easy to form good manners at table.

【解析】本文从去英国家庭做客说起礼貌和习惯问题。习惯一旦养成,很难改变。
(1)细节理解。题意:在英国,接受食物通常说“Yes, please”,拒绝食物说“No,thanks”。根据第一段中To accept a dish was by saying, “Yes, please.”To decline (谢绝) it was by saying, “No, thanks .”可知该表述正确。
(2)细节理解。题意:吃饭时发出声音是不礼貌的。根据第一段When eating they made little noise可知该表述正确。

A

In 1933 an unknown American called Clarence Nash went to see the filmmaker Walt Disney. He had an unusual voice and he wanted to work on Disney's cartoon (动画片) film for children. When Walt Disney heard Nash's voice, he said “Stop! That's our duck!”
The duck was the now famous Donald Duck, who first appeared in 1934 in the film The Wise Little Hen. Donald lived in an old houseboat (水上住家) and wore his sailor jacket and hat. Later that year, he became a star after an eight-minute Mickey Mouse film. The cinema audience liked him because he was lazy and greedy (贪婪的), and because he lost his temper (发脾气) very quickly. And they loved his voice when he became angry with Mickey's eight nephews (侄子). Soon Donald was more popular than Mickey Mouse himself, probably because he wasn't a goody-goody like Mickey.
In the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, Donald and his friends Mickey, Goofy and Pluto made hundreds of Disney cartoons. He also made educational films about the place of the USA in the world, and safety in the home. Then in 1966, Donald Duck and his voice disappeared — there were no more new cartoons.
Clarence Nash died in February, 1985.But today's children can still see the old cartoons on television and hear that famous voice.
