(1) 细节理解题,由括号中的旁白The class looks at him(全班同学看他)以及老师所说的话We are talking about a story we just read.Who can tell Evan what it was about?(我们正在谈论我们刚才读的故事。谁能告诉埃文它是关于什么的?)可知,下文是同学们轮流叙述故事的内容。由此推知后面发言的丽塔、马尔科和汤姆都是埃文的新同学。故选C。

(3)细节理解题,由括号中对埃文的描述A shy boy walks up,looking nervous.以及校长对埃文所说的话I know you are new to our school, but you will like it here.(我知道你是我们学校的新生,但是在这里你会喜欢它的。)

A report in a newspaper says that school accidents, such as food poisoning(食物中毒), fires, electricity and traffic, kill more primary and middle school students than any other things. So we must learn how to protect ourselves better. Here are some tips for keeping safety in mind every day.

When we're on our way home or to school . Wait for the green traffic light, and look left and right before we cross the road. We'd better wear bright-color clothes, so the drivers can see us easily. Don't believe the people we don't know in the street.

When we're in the school activity . When students around us begin to push each other, it's necessary for us to stand still and try to hold onto something, or stay in a corner until the crowd leaves. If we fall down in a moving crowd, use our hands to cover the head. Lean to one side, curl up(蜷缩)our body and bend(使弯曲)the legs.

When we meet a fire. Stay calm. Leave the classroom quickly with the help of the teachers. Smoke can be more dangerous than fire, so we should use a piece of wet cloth to cover our mouth and nose. What will we do if the clothes burn? Remember not to run! Drop and fall to the ground.

Then roll! It will make the fire go out.

When we eat . Wash fruits carefully before eating them. Check the expiration dates(保质期)on the packages of the snacks, and if it looks or smells bad, don't eat it.

In today's world many people seem to be hungry for money. Some of them even lose their lives for it. Money does have its most useful effect(影响) on the poor, but once a person has a rich life, a lot more money doesn't mean more happiness.
If money was everything, all millionaires would have true love, true friendship, good health and a long life. However, this is not always true.
Nothing else is more pleasant than the three words which are "I love you". But can love be bought? I'm afraid not. Love means to give, not to take. How I Turned to Be Optimistic

I began to grow up that winter night when my parents told me that we might soon be leaving for America. We were on the bus then.I was crying, and all the people on the bus were turning around to look at me.I remember I could not bear the thought of never hearing again the radio programs for school children to which I listened every morning.

I do not remember myself crying for this reason again. In fact, I think I cried very little when I was saying goodbye to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving I thought about all the places I was going to see—the strange and magical places I had known only from books and pictures. The country I was leaving was hardly in my head then.

The four years that followed taught me the importance of optimism, but the idea did not come to me at once. For the first two years in New York, I was really lost—having to study in three schools as a result of family moves.I did not quite know what I was or what I should be.Mother remarried, and things became even more difficult for me.Some time passed before my stepfather and I got used to each other.I was often sad, and saw no end to “hard times”.

My responsibilities (责任) in the family increased a lot because I knew English better than everyone else at home.I wrote letters, filled out forms, took my grandparents to the doctor, and even discussed telephone bills with company representatives (代表).

From my experiences I have learned one important rule: almost all common troubles eventually (逐渐地) go away! Something good is certain to happen in the end when you do not give up, and just wait a little! I believe that my life will turn out all right, even though it will not be that easy.

1Did the writer feel happy when she first knew that her family might soon be leaving for America?

2How did the writer get to know America before she went there?

3What made the writer feel lost for the first two years in New York?

4Why did the writer's responsibilities in the family increase a lot?

5What does the writer want to tell us from her experiences?
