How good projects grow

ARE you interested in project(项目,课题) and want to have a good one? Well, that doesn’t come easily. You need to do the following tasks:

TALK: You and your classmates discuss in detail(详细地) all that you would like to do to realize (实现)your project.

WRITE: One of your classmates acts as (担任)secretary(秘书) . He or she keeps full notes as your group discusses. Later he or she will sort (整理)your ideas to make them better.

PLAN: With the secretary’s notes, your group makes a list of everything you’ll need and who will get, do or research what.

DO: Each group member gets, does and researches something on the list. Your group puts together all you have found and tried to make the project more well-organized. You prepare (准备)to present(展示) it in class.

SHOW: You and your classmates show the world the result of your hard work.

Knowing all the above , you may want to try a project. Why not start with this: you can find out more about the history of your city. What did it look like? Which famous people lived there?

Do you want to live a happier, less stressful life? Try laughing for no reason at all. That’s how thousands of people start their day at Laughter Clubs around the world.

The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995, by Dr Madan Kataria. “Children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day,” says Dr Kataria. “Everyone’s naturally good at laughing — it’s the universal (共同的) language.” There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1,300 worldwide.

Many doctors are also interested in the effects (影响)of laughter on our health. According to a 5-year study at the UCLS School of Medicine in California, with laughing there is less stress in the body. Laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%.

So what happens at a Laughter Club? I went along to the nearest club in the south of London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class. I had no interest in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking stupid (愚蠢的). Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands (拍手) and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha” while looking at each other. Although we couldn’t tell the differences between fake laughter and real laughter, they still produced the same healthy effects.

Surprisingly, it worked! After ten minutes, everybody there was laughing for real and some people just couldn’t stop! At the end of the class I was shocked by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. So if you’re under stress, then start laughing.

Gift giving is different from culture to culture and person to person.

When giving gifts, sometimes color is important. For example, for many Chinese people around the world, red is a lucky color, and people often like to pack gifts in this color. However, did you know that in Korea ,red is a color of death. That is why you should not pack gifts in this color if you are giving a gift to a Korean person.

What about western countries? In western countries, the color of packing paper is not really important. But color does matter when giving flowers, especially roses. You should not give red roses to a western person you don't know very well because they are a symbol (象征) of love. You could give yellow roses instead as these are a symbol of friendship. You could also send pink roses as gifts to say thank you.

What other things should you remember when giving gifts to someone from a different culture? Well, one thing you should keep in mind is the person’s religion (宗教).When choosing a gift for a Muslim (回教徒的)or Jewish (犹太族的)friend, you should never get food including pork or things made from pigskin.Another thing that you should not get for a Muslim person is alcohol(酒).
