¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ Once while being prepared for a television interview, I was chatting with the host about stay-at-home fathers. Why are we seeing more stay-at-home dads? I thought maybe it¡¯s because a man doesn¡¯t make more money than his wife. Many families now take earning power into consideration when deciding which parent will stay at home.
At that point, one of the members expressed his opinion, ¡°It should be the better parent who stays at home¡±. A lot of guys say things like that. I was a stay-at-home father for eight years, so what he said made me excited. It showed that our family¡¯s choice could only have been correct if I was a ¡°better¡± parent than my wife.
I suppose an argument could have been made that when I began staying at home my wife was the ¡°better¡± parent: she had spent more time with our son, could read him better and calm him more quickly. And if he had had a choice, he¡¯d have picked her over me. But as she was the more employable one, my wife went out to work and I looked after our son.
Because of the increased time I spent with him, I soon knew him well, understood what he needed and could look after him more or less as my wife could. Actually, the experience helped me unlock one of the world¡¯s great secrets: Women are good at looking after the children because they do it. It¡¯s not because of a mother¡¯s instinct(±¾ÄÜ)£which I think is mostly learned anyway. It¡¯s because they put in the time and attention required to become good at the job.
Women are able to give birth and nurse, but over the long term experience is more important. When I got the experience myself, I was good, too. As good? I don¡¯t know. Who cares? Children are not made of glass. Other people are able to look after them besides Mom.

A.He is better than his wife at taking care of children.

Atlantis, a beautiful and wealthy island, is supposed to exist over 11, 000 years ago. In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, it was a center for trade. Its people were very wealthy and powerful. The rulers of Atlantis controlled their people and land, and their power spread to Europe and Africa.
The weather was very good in Atlantis, and therefore people could grow food all year around. Many different kinds of vegetables, fruits and nuts grew there, and a lot of different animals lived on the island, including elephants.
Atlantis was the home of Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea. Poseidon had ten sons, who became the first rulers of Atlantis. The island¡¯s many hills, fields and rivers were divided between the ten brothers. The eldest son, Atlas, was the first king of Atlantis. He controlled the island¡¯s central hill and its area nearby.
At the top of the central hill, a temple was built in memory of Atlas¡¯s father, Poseidon. Inside the temple was a huge gold statue of Poseidon. The rulers of Atlantis discussed laws in the temple.
For centuries the people of Atlantis lived simple, honest and happy lives. However, over time they began to change. They enjoyed the power they had and wanted to have more of it. When the God Zeus saw how corrupt (¸¯°Ü) the people of Atlantis were, he was very angry and gathered the other gods together. At last the gods agreed with Zeus and decided to sink (ϳÁ) the island. In one short day and a half, the island of Atlantis, its people and its memory were destroyed forever, swallowed (ÍÌ) up by the sea.
