—The only thing that ________ is not whether I fail or not, but whether I try or not.

A.caresB.mindsC.mattersD.considers

Everyone loves toys. But do you know how a toy is designed and produced? A visit to Yottoy, a toy company in New York, can show you how to do this. Yottoy produces toys that are based on children's books. These toys include Paddington Bear, Little Prince and Mary's Little Lamb.

Peter Doodeheefver, who designs the toys, took us around his shop to see how the toys are created.

We visited a sewing station. People there were busy sewing some toys together. Later, we saw another station where a woman was painting pieces of a Paddington Bear toy set. Here, we leared how they use clay(黏土)and molds(模具 to create toy parts, The molds are painted to look like characters from children's books.

Throughout the toy-creating process, the creators keep in touch with the writers of the books. They need to make sure the toys perfectly match the images the writers describe in their books. Sometimes changing the color of the fabric or the length of the arms can take the toy more accurate. It can be something as simple as making the hole in a doughnut just a little hit bigger or making the eyes look smaller.

Once their toys are created, they send them to a lab for safety tests. At the lab, they make sure all the parts are put together perfectly. For example, they make sure the eyes can't be removed by a baby, or that piece of the toys won't fall off. After the lab says the toys are ready, they can be sold.

【题目】When my son, Mark, was in the third grade, he saved all his pocket money for over three months to buy holiday presents. The third Saturday in December Mark said he had made his list and had twenty dollars in his pocket.

I drove him to a nearby supermarket. Mark picked up a hand basket and went in while I wailed and watched in the car. It took Mark over 45 minutes to choose his presents. Finally he came to the checkout counter (交款处) and reached into his pocket for his money. It was not there! There was a hole in his pocket, but no money. Mark stood there holding his basket, tears falling down his face.

Then a surprising thing happened. A woman came up to Mark and took him in her arms. "You would help me a lot if you let me pay for you," said the woman. "It would be the most wonderful gift you could give me. I only ask that one day you will pass it on. When you grow up, I would like you to find someone you can help. When you help others, I know you will feel as good about it as I do no."

Mark took the money, dried his tears and ran back to the checkout counter as fast as he could. That year we all enjoyed our gifts almost as much as Mm-k enjoyed giving them to us.

I would like to say "thank you" to that very kind woman, and tell her that four years later, Mark went house to house collecting blankets (毯子) and clothes for the homeless people in the fire. And I want to promise her that Mark will never forget to keep passing it on.

【题目】 On Nov. 18th, 1908, three men went up in a balloon(气球). They started early in London. The headman was Augusta Gaudron, and the other two men were Tannar and Maitland. They had a big balloon and they were ready for a long way.

Soon they heard the sea. They were carrying the usual rope(绳子), and it was hanging down from the basket of the balloon. At the end of the rope they had tied a metal box. This could hold water, or it could be empty. So they were able to change its weight(重量). It was for use over the sea. They were also carrying some bags of sand.

After the sun rose, the balloon went higher. It went up to 3,000 meters, and the air was very cold. The water in the balloon became ice. Snow fell past the men's basket, and they could see more snow on the ground. The men tried to throw out some more sand; but it was hard. They tried to break the icy sand with their knives, but it was not easy. The work was slow and they were still falling, so they had to drop some whole bags of sand. One of them fell on an icy lake and made a black hole in the ice.

At last they pulled the box into the basket. It was still snowing; so they climbed to get away from the snow. They rose to 5,100 meters! Everything became icy. They were so cold that they decided to land. They came down in Poland heavily but safely. They had travelled 1,797 kilometers from London!
