M:
I don't like our son at all. I like our daughter very much.
W:
He is handsome and he is so bright that he is the best one in his class.
Why
don't you like him?
M:
Because he will not treat us well when we are too old to do anything.
W:
How do you known that?
M:
I have learned that from what you and I did.

M:
It's Saturday tomorrow. What are we going to do?
W:
Shall we go to the Great Wail?
.
M:
I don't like to go there. Let's go to the new park. We can have a swim there.
There's a
beautiful lake.
W:
What will the weather be like tomorrow?
M:
The weather report says it will be sunny and the temperature will be rather
high.
W:
That's great. Shall we ask Mary and Tom to go together?
M:
OK. Where are we going to meet?
W:
Outside the school gate, shall we?
M:
A11 right.

W:
Who is the man with a black bag?
M:
I can't see a man with a black bag.
W:
He was standing at the door of that house a moment ago. Now he is walking down
the
street.
M:
0h, that man. I don't know who he is.
W:
Look. There is another man running after him.
M:
Oh, I know that man. He is Mr. Green. But why is he running after that
stranger?

W:
Officer! Officer!
M:
Yes, madam.
W:
Somebody just took my purse! Everything is gone.
M:
Just calm down for a minute... OK. Now what did the person look like?
W:
He was tall.
M:
About how old was he ?
W:
And about how old was he? Oh, he was quite young. I think..., sixteen or seventeen.
M:
Do you know how heavy he was?
W:
0h, he was about 120 pounds, I guess.
M:
And what color was his hair?
W:
Blond, and it was long.
M:
What was he wearing?
W:
Jeans and a T-shirt.
M:
Fine, and now tell me about your purse. What did it look like?
W:
Well, it was dark brown. It's made of leather.
M:
OK, now I'll need your name and address.

The
word "pub" is the short form for "public house " in Great Britain.
It is supposed to be the Englishmen's favourite
meeting place, where they can get together with friends over a pint of beer and
talk about football, horse racing or business. Pubs are usually open from 11 a.m. to midnight.
You may notice that the pub is
the Englishmen's meeting place. It is not quite respectable for a woman to go
into a pub alone . She must have a man to go with her. Perhaps that's partly
the reason why pubs depress me -- they are intended mainly to provide for male
interests.
Most Englishmen have their favourite local, where they can escape from the pressures
of family life or work, and if they are lucky, they can tell their troubles to
a pretty bar-girl. Indeed many men dream of retiring from their 9 to 5 jobs and
buying a little country pub, where they imagine they will be the host of a
seven night a week party.
