W : Sorry, I won't be able to go now because I 've just started a new job. I won't get a moment free until my training is over.

(Text 2)

W : Can you stay for supper?

M : I'd love to, but I have to go and buy some meat and vegetables before my brother comes home from school.

(Text 3)

W : Adam, I can see that you simply couldnl't give up smoking.

M : Nonsense. Smoking is the easiest thing in the world to give up. I've done it hundreds of times.

(Text 4)

M : I wonder when Mr Stevenson can finish grading our final papers.

W : Very soon. I think. He is leaving for North America next Wednesday to attend a meeting. He has to finish his grading by then.

(Text 5)

W : Good morning, can I help you?

M : Yes, I'd like a double-bedded room.

W : How many nights do you plan to stay with us?

M : Three. I'll be checking out Friday morning.

(Text 6)

M : I'm feeling much better now, doctor. Can I go to school tomorrow?

W : I'm glad you're a little better, but you must stay at home at least for three days.

M : Can I stop taking the medicine?

W : I'm afraid you can't. Starting from today, you may take it twice a day instead of three times a day.

M : I see. Thank you.

(Text 7)

M : Can you show me the day for your basketball practice?

W : Well, you see, sir. I want to stay in the basketball team, but I can't come to practice on Monday afternoons. I've got to have some extra lessons because my maths is very weak.

M : How about Wednesday and the other days?

W : Wednesday … no … because I have volleyball practice. I also have school band practice two days a week and I can't stop that because we're playing in a competition after April Fools' Day. I'm playing the violin and everyone is depending on me. I do seem rather busy this year, don't I?

(Text 8)

M : Have you ever eatch here before?

W : Only in the evenings. I didn't know until now that they served breakfast too.

M : That's what the Carolina Coffee Shop is famous for. People have been coming here for over 60 years for breakfast before going to the university football and basketball games. It's a tradition.

W : Oh, what's good here?

M : The best is their French toast. They take some pieces of French bread and dip them in eggs. Then they bake them. It's delicious.

W : I think I'll try that.

M : OK. Since this is your first visit to the Carolina Coffee Shop in the morning. I'll buy your breakfast.

W : Thanks.

(Text 9)

W : Well, how far away are they?I don't want to spend all day in the car.

M : Well, Newport is pretty near-about one hour away. But Oldfield will take about two and a half hours-if we're luckly.

W : Do they have swimming pools?

M : Well, Waterworld has a huge pool for swimming and playing about. The Adventure Park

hasn't got a pool, but it's got a small zoo.

W : I really don't like zoos. I hate seeing animals in cages.

M : Well, there aren't any animals at Waterworld. I know they've got restaurants but they are always so expensive. I'd rather take our own food and drinks.

M : That's a good idea. I'll tell the children.

Good evening. Tonight's broadcast bring together music from different corners of the world. The records we have chosen for you are from classial Western music. Indian music and pop. In this broadcast we shall study the language of music. We shall try to find out how music expresses people's feelings. You'll hear a Beethoven piano piece and songs sung by a pop group and some black Americans. It will be natural if you like one more than the others. I shall be trying to explain why they are all good music. The feeling in each of the following compositions is sadness. You can find sadness in words, in paintings, and in music. Music is one form of art. It's like the spoken language but uses sounds differently. I shall be saying a few words after each record. Now, the piano piece by Beethoven.
