One student took a box of chicken to class. Another carried on a cell-phone　 1　 ,and still another whistled loudly every time the　 2　 　turned his back..

Reform school? No. College. 　

More and more, professors say, they are coming across　 3　 students in their classrooms. Many of today’s young scholars arrive late, leave　 4　 , talk loud or take care of personal 5　 such as paying bills during class. 　

Why are the students behaving　 6 ? “Because they can,” said a student of University of North Texas. “A lot of the time, the professors let them get away with it.”

Some educators say it is time to bring politeness back to their classrooms-and even 　7 taking some of the blame for bad behavior. They say that rude students are by no means the majority but that one of them can ruin an entire　 8　 . 　

People are 　9　 when they learn that impolite behavior is becoming more and more common in 　10　 　education, says Dr. Gerald Amanda, a counselor at City College of San Francisco. They 　11　 some high school students to misbehave, but think those who get to　 12 will behave more politely. 　

Dr. Amanda believes that society in 　13　 has become more tolerant of rude behavior and 14　 　people in power, including professors, no longer　 15　 standards for　 16　 . That leads to a growing imprudence(轻率行为) 17　 some college students. “There’s a great 　18 　of bad behavior in the world around them, and young people see it and 　19　 disrespect,” said Dr. Amanda, 　20　 that sometimes students “have no idea that they are being rude. ”

Many adults see teens as energetic. Many of us see ourselves as proud. This thinking 　1　 　many adults and us, too, to have the idea that if we can’t handle school or 　2 　life well, we’re just not trying.

But in my opinion that may not be 　3 .

Earlier this school year, I was leaving my class one Friday, 　4　 suddenly it felt like I had pulled a muscle in my back. I knew I was ill.

After a few days I stopped eating. This meant I lost 5　 ; the clothes that I bought two weeks earlier began 　　6　 　loose. This time my parents got scared. 7　 , I started sleeping less. My eyelids(眼皮)were constantly 　　8　 .

I refused to 　　9　 　that I was ill. I kept my job working 25 hours a week in a shop; I didn’t 　10　 　any classes. When I was hurting, I didn’t mind and kept on going. 11　 　it kills you, it makes you stronger, right?

But now I find myself thinking. Is it 　12　 　it? I’m taking the classes and writing for the newspaper because it looks good 　13　 　college applications. And I’m working 25 hours a week so that, once I get into my dream school, I can 　14　 　it.

Here I am, already sick from the 　15　 　of work I’m doing in and out of school. So, what good is a(n)16　 　application if I’m badly ill? What is the 　17 　of doing this work if I can’t enjoy the results?

Lanzhou, Gansu: Tong Shiqiang dashed into a kindergarten behind his primary school several times, carrying a　 1　 of kids each time he rushed out of their classroom on that fateful day. All of 14 years old and 1.5m tall, Tong can now　　 2　 a national bravery award for saving seven children.

The grade-6 student was 　　3　 　a Chinese language class in Zhongwang Primary School in Qishan village of Longnan city, one of the worst-hit areas in Gansu province, 　　4　 the deadly quake struck on May 12. There were 49 　　5　 students in his class at the time.

In 1977，a dead author of detective stories saved the life of a 19-month-old baby in a most unusual way. The author was Agatha Christie，one of the most successful writers of detective stories in t he world.

In June 1977，a baby girl became seriously ill in Qatar，near Saudi Arabia. Doctors were unable to　 1　　 the cause of her illness，so she2　 to London and admitted to Hammersmith Hospital，where specialist help was　 3　 .
