【题目】

When I was a kid, I was just like every other kid. As usual, I liked being with friends and having fun. But I didn’t like school much. I didn’t like the rule of learning, studying, memorizing, etc. Too much work. As I got into high school, things changed for me. I started reading a lot of books. Books taught me about life and helped me learn about the world. I read around 30 books during each senior year. I learned to love reading then.

Little did I know at that time that I would write books by myself. I’ve written 7 books since then. One book I wrote, Powerful Attitudes, was a huge success within a network marketing company in the USA.

When I was 17 years old, I took about a dozen guitar lessons. I fell in love with guitar music no matter if it is blues, rock, flamenco or classical. I’ve attended concerts and have heard some great guitarists through the years. Recently, I bought myself a piano and began to learn to play it. I’ve made great progress. My knowledge of music and playing guitar has helped me a lot in learning the piano.

Last week, I employed a Chinese teacher to teach me Chinese. I’ve learned about 200 words in my first week. I’m inspired and motivated to learn. In fact, I feel a bit obsessed, thinking of learning Chinese. It’s like a mountain I want to climb and conquer. I’m 56 years old and my love to learn it runs deep in my heart, mind/span> and soul.

What I certainly learned while growing up is to love learning. I never want to stop learning. I never want to stop studying people, life, processes and new things. I think the openness of admitting what you don’t know, makes you a good learner. You never lie to yourself or to others about your knowledge and experience. I have the attitude that if I don’t know something, I will learn to know it.

Everyone can help to save the world

We are all environmentalists now. We all know about acid rain and the ozone hole. 【1】 As consumers we have the power to make decisions which will contribute to a better world and it is in our power to do what we can to protect the earth.

2 In this way we have the power to influence retailers (零售商) to sell us these so-called “green” products. Therefore, the supermarkets have understood the message and are now trying to improve their environmental image. They are turning to less wasteful and recyclable packaging. The range of “green” products will continue to expand to meet the growing demand. This message has also reached the manufacturers. 3 They have realized that protecting the environment may start as an advertising campaign but in the hands of intelligent people it can become a very profitable business. Besides, we can do more.

Furthermore, we also know there are other areas where all of us can make a positive contribution to a cleaner, healthier and safer environment. 4 There are a number of ways we can do this. For example, we now know how important it is to have our homes well insulated (隔热). We should choose the best energy efficient technology, such as modern light bulbs which can reduce electricity consumption by 80% over the older ones. We must also work hard to reduce the amount of rubbish we produce. We all produce tons of rubbish and waste disposal has become a big problem. As an environmentally-conscious consumer we should buy products which do not have so much packaging. Also, we should try to avoid non-returnable goods at all costs. In Scandinavia and Germany, for example, plastic bottles and cans are now returnable goods.

In conclusion it is important to emphasize once again the rise of consumer power. We must realize that we are all part of the problem. 5

A. We can all reduce energy consumption at home and so cut the emissions from power systems.

B. For example, when we walk into a supermarket we can choose to buy environmentally friendly products and reject products which damage our planet.

C. There are some other ways to protect the environment.

D. Companies are developing environmentally friendly products that maintain a high quality and a low price.

E. But what are we doing about these problems?

F. Nevertheless we must also realize that we have the responsibility to be part of the solution.

G. Everybody has the duty to contribute to a cleaner world.

【题目】Land Art, sometimes referred to as Earth Art or Earthworks, is a form of art which involves using physical landscapes to create art, taking art out of the museum and into the outside world. Modern Land Art movement really got going in the 1960s when American artists began creating Land Art on a large scale. Today, works of modern Land Art can be seen all over the world, sometimes right alongside much older pieces of Land Art created by people who lived thousands of years ago.

Land Art, which is not necessarily unchangeable, can take a number of forms. For examples, in 1970 Robert Smithson created the Spiral Jetty(螺旋状防波堤), made of a collection of stones and mud, in the Great Salt Lake. The American artist made a large jetty in a spiral shape which sticks out into the waters of the lake.

Reshaping the landscape is a common characteristic of Land Art, which can be created by moving parts around. People can also add things to the environment to create Land Art, like salt, which is added to the Spiral Jetty. It is possible to use plants. In all cases, Land Art is immovable.

Land Art is designed to gradually form, change, and eventually decay(衰落). Thats one of the biggest differences between Land Art and most of the art one sees in the museums. Some works of art can exist only for a few hours or days. Others are exposed to rain and wind so that they develop and decay over time, which is part of the attractiveness in the eyes of the artists.

1 What do we know about Robert Smithson?

A. He is a great creative artist.

B. He lives near the Great Salt Lake.

C. He made the most famous Land Art.

D. He was a pioneer in creating Land Art.

【2】One of the unique characteristics of Land Art lies in _______.

A. it shows the extreme beauty of nature

B. it develops and decays gradually over time

C. it combines the landscapes around completely

D. it offers the artists a chance to get close to nature

【3】What is the passage mainly about?

A. Works of Land Art. B. History of Land Art.

C. Changes of Land Art. D. Introduction of Land Art.
