13.That afternoon,a disease forced Diana to experience an emergency operation to deliver the couple's new daughter. At 12inches long and(41)D only one pound and nine ounces, she was a premature baby.
But the doctor's soft words dropped like (42)B."I don't think she's going to make it"he said."There's only a 10-percent(43)A she will pull through the night, and even then,if by some chance she does make it,her future could be a very(44)C one."

Finally,Anna went home from the hospital, just as her mother had (58)C.Today,five years later,Anna is a little hut lively young girl with bright gray eyes(59)B a strong interest for life. She shows no (60)C of any mental or physical injuries Simply, she is everything a little girl can be.

12.Remembering My Father's Vest
People get into trouble because they don't know enough to keep cool.As a child,I had a lot of (41)B that had been held back and not released.Worse still,I was not good at(42)Cconstructively.
Once as I was getting ready for school,my mother(43)Bhanded me my father's vest instead of mine. This was around the time when I was going to be larger in(44)Athan my father,so as I put on the vest,I felt like I was being choked in it!I (45)D that it was a small oversight(疏忽) on my mother's part,but(46)Cthe feeling of being choked drowned me and I got very angry.
I took my anger out on my mother(47)A thinking much.I was so upset when she had handed me the wrong vest, and I (48)Cby violently tearing it apart from my chest!
Later,my mother shared her own(49)Bwith my father:"See what your son has done."
Instead of scolding or abusing me,my father(50)Aresponded by asking my mother to(51)Dthe vest.He then worn it to work the next day.
When my mother told me about my father's response much later, when I had(52)Afrom my fit,I immediately felt a great sense of(53)Dfor my violent behavior, just (54)Cthat he was spending the entire day wearing a(n)(55)Cvest.At the same time,I was filled with great(56)Dfor my father, whose gentle kindness taught me a life lesson I would treasure forever.
On that day,I made a(57)B never to let anger get the better of me.I learn to(58)Aother when I think that they behave in an unfair, cruel,or unacceptable way,(59)Cforgiveness is a tool to turn anger off.And whenever I have difficulty(60)Bmy strong emotion,I try to remember my father's vest.

I told my friend Graham that I often cycle the two miles from my house to the town center but unfortunately there is a big hill on the route. He replied,"You mean(41)B."He explained that I should be glad of the(42)C exercise that the hill provided.
My(43)Ato the hill has now changed.I used to(44)Das I approached it but now I tell myself the following. This hill will exercise my heart and lungs. It will help me to(45)Cand get fit.It will mean that I live longer. This hill is my friend.(46)B,I have a smile of(47)A as I reach the top of the hill.

10.Education from My Father
My memories of my father are slim because he was so sick in the last years of his life. But there are(36)Cthat I am often reminded of and which may have had some bearing on my love of(37)A.
When I was small I was somewhat(38)B of lightning and thunder. My father explained it.The explanation was in(39)D that a child could understand but was basically correct.I gained a better (40)Alater,but I didn't have to unlearn anything.
What he said was that there was electricity in the cloud(41)Bit traveled to the ground like a spark. When it traveled(42)Dthe air it made the air so hot that it(43)B.Then there was nothing where the air had been and the air all around rushed in to(44)A the space. He clapped his hands together very loud,(45)Dto be the air rushing in,and said that makes the thunder. When I hear thunder,I can still hear that (46)A.
He explained why if it was cloudy in the winter the night was warmer than if it was(47)C.It was one of those nights when the sky was full of stars:no moon,no town lights. But there were more stars than you could (48)Cand they had color too.He said that if there were no clouds,we had no blankets and were(49)B to the universe. Our warmth was going to (50)Athe whole universe. When there were clouds, they were like blankets and we were not exposed to the universe.I (51)D feel on the edge of space on a very clear night.
I am sure there were many other lessons that I(52)C but no longer remember. What I did(53)D,in general, was that there were explanations and that the more I understood the m,the more comfortable the world was to live in.I was not taught that there were (54)Cbut that there was understanding if you looked for it.This may be why I have always been(55)B in science.
