On the Iraq-Syria border,a pack of wild dogs circled American soldiers for food. The leader of the pack was a gray-and-white dog. The soldiers called him Nubs. Nubs was shaking and 1      able to stand. Brian Dennis looked closer and saw that there was a knife wound 2      his chest.

Dennis couldn’t stand seeing the dog 3      He and his men immediately treated the wound, and gave Nubs oral medicine. Nubs 4      but was still in pain. The next day,the team had to 5      Ten days later,Dennis’ unit was back, and so was Nubs. He was still 6     ,but the men fed him and played with him.

Before long the unit once again 7      an outpost (前哨) 70 miles away. Nubs slowly but determinedly,8      them far into the trackless wasteland until the men lost 9      of him. Two days later, beyond Dennis’10     ,he saw Nubs just outside the outpost. The dog had tracked him across 70 miles of desert to 11      with the friend who had saved his life. From then on Nubs and the men slept in the same place, and ran around in the same ruins.

Until an order came down from above that they were not 12      to have pets,Dennis 13       to make sure the dog would continue to live a ( n) 14 life. So he quickly raised $ 4,000 from his family and friends to fly Nubs to 15    .

A month later, when Dennis and the dog were 16      in California,at first Nubs didn’t recognize the guy. 17       within minutes, the dog jumped into Dennis’ arms, jumping up again and again to 18      his friend’s face.

A little 19       and concern in the middle of war will not save a violent world. But small stories, like the story of a soldier and a dog, hold a promise of a (n) 20       world.

If something that you’re doing doesn’t challenge you, then it doesn’t change you. We all need some normal stress in our lives, after all.1.        So challenge the following limits:

  1. Figure out what you’re scared of and do it continuously.

If you’re a salesman, and you’re scared of talking to people personally or over the phone, now, instead of being scared and thinking you’ll fail, spend at least five minutes a day to pick up the phone and make a call.2. But don’t stop on the first try!Eventually, you can look at fear in the eyes and say, “Go on,I’m not scared!”

  2. 3.

Make sure this hobby is not linked to your career;you have to relax and relieve your stress while performing this. Some examples might be cooking, sewing, painting and so on. Apart from helping you challenge yourself, taking a class for your hobby may also give you extra income.

  3. Set aside at least nine minutes a day for physical exercise.

  4.        A simple 9-minute run around your neighbourhood can do wonders for yourself. Exercise can not only help you maintain your regular weight, but also make you feel better about yourself.

  4. Travel and allow yourself to be interested in new people.

Don’t just limit yourself to your fellow travellers—try to connect with the service staff. You never know what kind of people they’re going to be. Get out of your house or go online right now to book your class.5.

   A. You should do it continuously.

   B. Someone may hang up on you.

   C. You don’t need to go to the gym.

   D. Running in the gym may be a better choice.

   E. Start to travel now and learn to challenge yourself.

   F. Take a class for a hobby you’ve been wanting to develop.

   G. You can never see any improvement if you stick to your comfort zone.

It’s hard being an astronaut’s son. I 1     ,everybody expects you to be special or 2     ,and I'm just an average student, and I’m average, too, when it 3        basketball, football, soccer, and baseball.

One of our neighbours said, “I 14        you’ll win the contest,David. You’re the only one in town who could write about being the son of an astronaut. ” I 15        I hadn’t shown anyone the essay, but now I almost hoped I wouldn’t win.   I won the second prize. When I finished reading my essay, the 17      applauded. I saw my father blowing his nose. I went back to my seat.

Dad nodded to me,18        his throat, and put his hand on my shoulder. “Son,this is the 19        moment of my life,” he said.

It was the proudest moment of my life, too. Maybe I’ll never be a great hero or win a Nobel Prize, but just then,it was 20        just to be my father’s son.
