题目内容

13.Jane was walking round the department store.She remembered how difficult(61)it was to choose a suitable Christmas present for her father.She wished that he was as easy (62)to please (please)as her mother, who was always delighted with perfume.
Besides,shopping at this time of the year was not(63)a pleasant experience:people stepped on your feet or (64)pushed  (push)you with their elbows(肘部),hurrying ahead to get to a bargain.
Jane paused in front of a counter (65)where  some attractive ties were on display."They are real silk,"the assistant tried to attract her."Worth double the price."But Jane knew from past experience that her (66)choice  (choose)of ties hardly ever pleased her father.
Jane stopped where a small crowd of men had gathered.She found some good quality pipes on sale.She did not hesiate for long:although her father smoked a pipe only once in a while,she knew that this was a present which was bound to please(67)him (he).
When Jane got home,(68)with  her small but well-chosen present in herbag,her parents were already at table(69)having  (have) supper.Her mother was excited."Your father has at last decided to stop smoking,"Jane (70)was told (tell).

61.it   62.to please   63.a    64.pushed    65.where    66.choice    67.him     68.with     69.having  70.was told

Studying Abroad
The topic of my speech today is"Studying Abroad".
Attending schools abroad has many advantages.Firstly,by looking at our own country from outside,we can widen our vision and broaden our minds.(高分句型一)Secondly,we can visit famous scenic spots and make friends with the local people.Thirdly,we can use the foreign language in our daily life so that our ability in the second language may be improved quickly.(高分句型二)
However, there are also some disadvantages in attending a foreign school. The most serious problem is the language barrier. Most students do not have adequate knowledge of the language spoken there. On arriving there, they find it difficult to understand what the teachers are saying.Furthermore, the cost of living is much higher than that in our country,so most students have to find part time jobs to support themselves.Faced with these difficulties, many students find themselves unable to pay full attention to their studies and learn little.(高分句型三)
On the whole,it is a good thing to study abroad. However, one must not lose sight of the disadvantages.
Thank you for your listening..
18.Cold weather has a great effect on how our minds and our bodies work.Maybe that is why there are so many expressions that use the word cold.For centuries,the body's blood has been linked closely with the emotions.People who show no human emotions or feelings,for example,are said to be cold-blooded.Cold-blooded people act in merciless ways.They may do cruel things to others,and not by accident.For example,a newspaper says the police are searching for a cold-blooded killer.The killer murdered someone,not in self-defense.He seemed to kill with no emotion.
Cold can affect other parts of the body,the feet,for example.Heavy socks can warm your feet,if your feet are really cold.But there is an expression-to get cold feet-that has nothing to do with cold or your feet.The expression means being afraid to do something you had decided to do.For example,you agree to be president of an organization.But then you learn that all the other officers have given up the position.All the work of the organization will be your responsibility.You are likely to get cold feet about being president when you understand the situation.
Cold can also affect your shoulder.You give someone the cold shoulder when you refuse to speak to them.You treat them in a distant,cold way.The expression probably comes from the physical act of turning your back toward someone,instead of speaking to him face-to-face.You may give a cold shoulder to a friend who has not kept a promise he made to you.Or,to someone who has lied about you to others.
A cold fish is not a fish.It is a person.But it is a person who is unfriendly,unemotional and shows no love or warmth.A cold fish does not offer much of himself to anyone.
Out in the cold is an expression often heard.It means not getting something that everybody else got.A person might say that everybody but him got a pay raise.He was left out in the cold.And it is not a pleasant place to be.

C.cold is a word all used to describe human emotions.
D.the word cold has many different meanings in English.
69.Which of the following can best describe a person who is unwilling to offer anything to others?D
A.Cold-blooded.B.To get cold feet.C.A cold shoulder.D.A cold fish.
70.If a teacher gives all the boys except Tom a pen as a prize,you can say TomC.
A.is given the cold shoulder.
B.is punished by a cold fish.
C.is left out in the cold.
D.has got cold feet.
