It was 6 pm when we arrived Belfast, so we went straight to the hotel that we booked online to check in after we got on the plane. On our way to the downtown, the taxi driver brief introduced the city, which had been in chaos for almost 30 years until the end of next century.

After dropped our bags, we wandered around in the streets. The city was peacefully and people seemed to be enjoying their life very much. The place that we had our dinner was called ¡°The Crown¡±, a pub dated back to 1826, when the first train ran from Belfast to Lisburn.

We met two European girls having Chow Mein, fried noodles, when we were having a rest in the hall of the hotel later. They told us they have bought the noodles in a Chinese restaurant named Eastern Land. We decided not to go there the next evening so that we could taste it.

It is hard to know what babies want. They can¡¯t talk, walk, or even point at what they¡¯re thinking about. ¡¾1¡¿ And, compared to adults, they develop these skills quickly. People have a hard time learning new languages as they grow older, but infants have the ability to learn any language easily.

For a long time, scientists have tried to explain how such young children can learn complicated(¸´ÔÓµÄ) grammatical rules and sounds of a language. ¡¾2¡¿ This new information might eventually help kids with learning problems as well as adults who want to learn new languages. It might even help scientists who are trying to design computers that can communicate like people do.

Most babies go ¡°goo goo¡± and ¡°ma ma¡± by 6 months of age. ¡¾3¡¿ For decades, scientists have wondered how the brains of young children figure out how to communicate using language. With the help from new technologies and research strategies, scientists are now finding that babies begin life with the ability to learn any language.

They get into contact with other people, listen to what they say and watch their movements very closely. ¡¾4¡¿ Studies show that, up to about 6 months of age, babies can recognize all the sounds that make up all the languages in the world.

There are about 6,000 sounds that are spoken in languages around the globe, but not every language uses every sound. For example, while the Swedish language has 16 vowel sounds, English uses 8 vowel sounds, and Japanese uses just 5. Adults can hear only the sounds used in the languages they speak fluently. To a native Japanese speaker, for example, the letters R and L sound the same. ¡¾5¡¿

A. Children don¡¯t respond to this kind of sound.

B. Most children speak in full sentences by age 3.

C. A baby¡¯s brain focuses on the most common sounds.

D. That is why they quickly master the languages they hear often.

E. So a Japanese speaker cannot tell ¡°row¡± from ¡°low¡±, or ¡°rake¡± from ¡°lake¡±.

F. Yet newborns begin to develop language skills long before they begin speaking.

G. Now, researchers are knowing about what¡¯s happening in the brains of the youngest language learners.

It can be challenging to find time to work out(¶ÍÁ¶)when your schedule is full, but unless you want to deal with a waistline(ÑüΧ) that keeps increasing in size, staying active is important. ¡¾1¡¿__

Workday

You might not have time to escape the office and visit the gym during your lunch break, but that doesn¡¯t mean you can¡¯t burn calories throughout your workday. Instead of driving to work or riding the bus, walk or cycle, depending on how far you live from the office. A 30-minute bike ride at just 12 to 13.9 mph will help a 155-pound person burn 298 calories. ¡¾2¡¿_ Instead of phoning a colleague across the office, walk over to speak in person.

At home

You probably want to sit or sleep on the couch, but by keeping active around the house, you can burn a significant number of calories throughout the day. ¡¾3¡¿__ Playing with your kids for 30 minutes will help you burn 186 calories if you weigh 155 pounds, while you¡¯ll burn 167 calories in a half-hour house-cleaning session.

Outdoors

Other

Everyday errands(²îÊÂ) can help you burn extra calories when you can¡¯t find time to work out. ¡¾5¡¿_Washing your car by hand will burn 167 calories in 30 minutes.span> By parking your car at the far end of the parking lot, you¡¯ll burn more calories getting to and from your vehicle.

A. You can make adjustments to your lifestyle to include a variety of calorie-burning activities into everyday life.

B. Pushing a shopping cart around the supermarket causes 130 calories burned in a

half hour.

C. Instead of paying to clean up the yard, do it yourself.

D. At work, take the stairs instead of the lift.
