16.It is easy to find your way about in New York.It is laid out so regularly.Instead of streets winding and twisting (迂回) as they do in London, they are all regular and well planned. The streets running north and south are called"avenues"and are numbered,e.g.1st Avenue,2nd Avenue, etc. The streets going east and west are called"streets"and are also numbered,e.g.51st Street,63rd Street. It is all much more logical (合理的) than London's street names. But I couldn't help thinking how much more interesting than these dull cold numbers are London's illogical but colorful names of streets,e.g."Bishopgate"(which is not a gate and hasn't a Bishop in it);"Haymarket"or"Corn market"(where you won't see any hey or corn) or"Poultry"(without a living chicken anywhere in sight) or"Thread needle Street"(where you won't find little girls learning to sew).

It is easy to find your way about in NewYork. It is laid out  so regularly.
Thestreets running north and south are called"avenues"and are numbered,e.g.1stAvenue,2nd Avenue,etc.
Itis all much more logical (合理的)than London's street names.
But I couldn't help thinking how muchmore interesting than these dull cold numbers are London's illogical butcolorful names of streets,e.g.
Itis all much more logical (合理的)than London's street names.

6.Have you ever had such experience?Travelers in the airport line up and march slowly toward the full-body scanner(扫描仪).Have you wondered that screening may one day speed up dramatically?Now,scientists are creating a cheap and smart new device that gathers data in a flash.
It relies on microwaves to image objects.Microwaves are a form of electromagnetic radiation(电磁辐射)-types of energy that travel through space as a wave.Electromagnetic radiation includes visible (可见的) light,which can be seen with the naked eye.It also includes several types of energy,such as microwaves,that aren't visible with the naked eye.
In January,scientists at Duke University and elsewhere reported creating a new device that could help make smarter,faster and cheaper scanning machines.So far,the new device has been tested only in the lab.But if it works outside the lab,too,it could find use in a host of new products.
At airports,the new device could be used in machines that scan people for guns,knives or other would-be weapons.A technique similar to the one used by the researchers could be applied to other scanners,like those doctors use to peer into the body.This could reduce the amount of time patients spend in a scanner and the cost of such procedures.The device's designers even imagine police officers wearing vests embedded with the new technology to help identify a hidden weapon.
Instead of requiring expensive technology,a scanner based on the device could use existing materials (like copper) in a smarter way.Called metamaterials,these become useful based on how they're designed,not what they're made of.
"This definitely represents a less expensive and potentially faster alternative to current imaging methods,and its working principle is easily understood,"Kevin Kelly told Science News.Kelly is a technology specialist at Rice University in Houston.

67.What can we infer from the first paragraph?D.
A.Every traveler is willing to have a security scan.

D.The current security scan system should be improved.
68.What is special about microwaves compared to visible light according to the passage?B.

It was the first time the public had gotten to see and hear from George Zimmerman.The judge said he had found probable cause to move ahead with the case and told Zimmerman he would be formally charged on May 29th.
Zimmerman turned himself into authorities on Wednesday night, just before special prosecutor (检举人)Angela Corey announced the charge against him.

''I'm prepared to argue the issue if Zimmerman uses the self-defense law in court''.
Mark O'Mara,Zimmerman's lawyer, would not make his plan public, but he said his client (委托人) was worried about the trial.
"If found guilty of the second-degree murder charge,Zimmerman could face up to life in prison.",O'Mara said.

11.A weather map is an important tool for geographers.A succession of three or four maps presents a continuous picture of weather changes.Weather forecasters are able to determine the speed of air masses and fronts(冷暖空气团接触的锋)to determine whether an individual pressure area is deepening or becoming shallow and whether a front is increasing or decreasing in intensity. They are also able to determine whether an air mass is retaining its original characteristics or taking on those of the surface over which it is moving. Thus,a most significant function of the map is to reveal a synoptic picture of conditions in the atmosphere at a given time.
All students of geography should be able to interpret a weather map accurately.Weather maps contain an enormous amount of information about weather conditions existing at the time of observation over a large geographical area. They reveal in a few minutes what otherwise would take hours to describe. The United States Weather Bureau issues information about approaching storms, floods, frosts, droughts, and all climatic conditions in general.Twice a month it issues a 30-day"outlook"which is a rough guide to weather conditions likely to occur over broad areas of the United States. These 30-day outlooks are based upon an analysis of the upper air levels which often set the stage for the development of air masses, fronts, and storms.
Considerable effort is being exerted today to achieve more accurate weather predictions. With the use of electronic instruments and earth satellites, enormous gains have taken place recently in identifying and tracking storms over regions which have but few meteorological stations (气象站).Extensive experiments are also in progress for weather modification(改变)studies. But the limitations of modification have prevented meteorological results except in the seeding of super-cooled,upslope mountainous winds which have produced additional orographic (山岳形态的) precipitation on the windward side of mountain ranges.Nevertheless, they have provided a clearer understanding of the fundamentals of weather elements.
