7.George Zimmerman's first court appearance before a Florida judge came on Tuesday in connection with the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.The case has caused a national debate in the United States about race,self-defense laws and gun control.
It was the first time the public had gotten to see and hear from George Zimmerman.The judge said he had found probable cause to move ahead with the case and told Zimmerman he would be formally charged on May 29th.
Zimmerman turned himself into authorities on Wednesday night, just before special prosecutor (检举人)Angela Corey announced the charge against him.
Corey told reporters she would fight for Trayvon Martin.
"It's the victims and justice that we work tirelessly for"Corey said.
Zimmerman says he shot Martin in self-defense after spotting the teenager in a gated community where Martin's father lives.He told police Martin attacked him during a conflict.The shooting caused a national cry led by Martin's parents who insisted their son was murdered.They also accused Zimmerman of targeting their son because he was black.
"We just wanted an arrest and we got it,"Trayvon Martin's mother Fulton said.

"It was long overdue (迟到的) and I am glad they decided to do something,"another said.
Police did not initially charge Zimmerman with a crime because of a Florida law that says a person has a right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force.Prosecutor Corey say:
''I'm prepared to argue the issue if Zimmerman uses the self-defense law in court''.
Mark O'Mara,Zimmerman's lawyer, would not make his plan public, but he said his client (委托人) was worried about the trial.
"If found guilty of the second-degree murder charge,Zimmerman could face up to life in prison.",O'Mara said.

19.My mother finds more achievable with children as a school dinner lady rather than operating computers but some decades ago my mother was replaced by a computer.Her job was pressing buttons on an electromechanical adding machine to work out electricity bills.
In my generation I am faced with just how far this growth of technology will go in replacing not just jobs but more fundamental aspects of being human.
A Deloitte report published today suggests that 60% of jobs here in the North East are at high risk of being replaced by robots and artificial intelligence.Yet the implications(含义) are complex.Brynjolfsson and McAfee in The Second Machine Age argue that while some jobs will disappear,others will be created and some existing jobs will become more valuable.This situation is extremely important for education,training and financial field.
But are there wider implications for spirituality?Will these intelligent machines become conscious and what might this mean for our self-understanding of what it means to be human?
Here we need to be careful in dealing with the complex relationship of science and science fiction.Humans and Alex Garland's Ex Machina present an almost inevitable appearance of intelligent machines with consciousness.However,the science is still uncertain about this possibility of intelligent machines,even if the fiction raises useful questions.Equally,those who directly rule it out by claiming that human beings will always be unique need to take scientific advances seriously.
As for me,I welcome intelligent machines taking away dull work,but also want to engage in the discussion of how we structure our world so that all can experience what it means to be fully human.And if the intelligent machines eventually appear as self-aware and with a capacity to love,then why should they not be loved by God?

15.Two graduates from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom found themselves about to graduate, yet with loans (贷款) to pay off.The pair decided to begin a strange,year-long project to battle their debt.
The men,Ross Harper and Ed Moyse, set up the site BuyMyFace.co.uk.last October as a way to get rid of the 80,000they shared as student loans. The idea behind the project was to earn money by selling their faces as advertising space every day for a year. Each day, they advertise a different business on their site by painting the brand's logo (商标) or name on their faces and including a link to the company's site. After they paint their faces and publish them on the site,Harper and Moyse go out to highly populated areas such as music festivals and theme parks to maximize their faces'exposure. At this time,Harper and Moyse have advertised their faces for over four months without skipping a day and they're more than halfway to their goal.Though they first started charging a minimum of about USD   1.60 per company, the prices have risen as their popularity increased. For advertising space during the remainder of April, they range between USD   250 and   750.
Terri L.Rittenburg, associate professor of marketing at the University of Wyoming, said she had heard of people tattooing (纹身) logos on themselves before, but this idea is much better.According to her,at first the idea would be new and novel and attract attention, but she is unsure how long it would last.

19.Even as Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda wrapped up a tired appearance before Congress,the head of the world's largest automaker wasn't leaving his problems behind.
Toyota faces a criminal investigation by federal lawyers in New York.The company is now being investigated.Its US dealerships in difficulty now are facing repairs to potentially millions of customer cars that have been recalled.The company is offering customers money back for rental cars and other expenses.
Its lawyers are busy preparing to cope with lawsuits.A new hearing will be conducted.And the cost to Toyota's reputation is only now starting.
Despite back-to-back hearings this  week,left to be said were a better explanation for slow actions to deal with the faults and believable promises that the problems that led to sudden,unintended accelerations will be fixed.
Toyoda said those changes were being made nearly around the clock, but during three hours of often tense questions and answers he repeated that there was no link to the vehicle's electronic systems.
Many drivers making complaints against Toyota and the government say their acceleration problems had nothing to do with floor mat interference(油门踏板故障)or sticky gas pedals(刹车).Outside experts have suggested electronic problems.
House lawmakers expressed serious criticism on Toyoda, the grandson of the company's founder.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA)is seeking records on Toyota's recalls and is conducting its own review on whether electronics were behind the car faults.NHTSA also continues to look into steering complaints from drivers of the popular Corolla model.
Toyota has recalled 8.5million cars,more than 6million of them in the United States.
It may be a while before car buyers believe that Toyota really makes safe cars.
Toyota's January sales already fell 16percent even as most other automakers jumped back from last year's bad results.Analyst Koji Endo of Advanced Research Japan in Tokyo said he expects February sales,due out next week,to be down 30percent to 40.Toyota's sales problem could continue beyond that.
It will take some time to feel the full effect of this,he said.

16.It is easy to find your way about in New York.It is laid out so regularly.Instead of streets winding and twisting (迂回) as they do in London, they are all regular and well planned. The streets running north and south are called"avenues"and are numbered,e.g.1st Avenue,2nd Avenue, etc. The streets going east and west are called"streets"and are also numbered,e.g.51st Street,63rd Street. It is all much more logical (合理的) than London's street names. But I couldn't help thinking how much more interesting than these dull cold numbers are London's illogical but colorful names of streets,e.g."Bishopgate"(which is not a gate and hasn't a Bishop in it);"Haymarket"or"Corn market"(where you won't see any hey or corn) or"Poultry"(without a living chicken anywhere in sight) or"Thread needle Street"(where you won't find little girls learning to sew).
