I feel very excited at the thought that in another week I'll be with you again on holiday.
My host and my fellow-students are all very nice to me, but as they say in England, “There's no place like home”, and I think you will feel this above all at Christmas time.
I'm leaving here early on Thursday, the 23rd, and I'll be arriving in Paris on Friday morning. Please meet me at the station. In some of my earlier letters I have told you all about the other students here. Because he has no friends in England except me. He is a very nice boy. I know you will like him and I feel sure he will enjoy Christmas with us. Please let me know soon if that's all right. I've got some Christmas presents for you all, but I'm not going to tell you what they are, so it will be a surprise.
I hope you are all keeping well. See that father always puts on his big coat when he goes out so that he will not catch a cold. We don't want him ill for Christmas.
A. I will have him spend Christmas with us.
B. But I haven't invited him yet.
C. I enjoy my stay in England very much indeed.
D. How are you all at home?

So I'll be home about lunch time.

F. Well, I want to ask my Canadian friend, Jan, to come and spend Christmas.

When I was a child, I had to go to church and obey many other rules, though these rules at times caused resentment (怨恨). Perhaps the most extreme parenting decision my parents made for my four brothers and sisters and me was to create a home environment without a television.
We hated this decision at that time, because there was seemingly no way to keep this embarrassing fact a secret at school. Naturally, simple pleasures like cartoons, football games, and movies became huge novelties I would go over to friends' or relatives' houses for that access alone.
When I reached high school, my parents bought a television, though it had no cable. However, I did spend most of my childhood in a home without a television. In fact not having a television did contribute a great deal to my skills, and it also forced me to develop other valuable interests. We grew up in a small town, so my brothers and sisters and I spent time exploring streets, fields and woods. And of course I read and wrote and studied, which pushed me toward a career path.
So would I give a similar situation to my own children if I had them? I doubt it, at least not in the most extreme sense. I'm too much of a football fan, not to mention the TV serials (连续剧) like The Wire. But television or almost anything for that matter is unhealthy for kids. It can prevent them from living a full life. So maybe a reasonable answer is no cable or no video-game systems or simply setting the time limit, but I haven't exactly worked out how to confine it yet. Although some people are against my idea, we do need limits after all.

D.watching TV is unhealthy for both adults and children
(3)Which of the following can replace the underlined word “confine” in the last paragraph?
A.Limit.
B.Punish.
C.Reject.
D.Support.

Uncivilized behavior by passengers unacceptable
For the first time, airline passengers have been blacklisted for uncivilized behavior. Their names will remain on the blacklist for one or two years, according to an announcement by the China Air Transport Association on Saturday. The blacklisting means they will not be able to travel by air until their names are removed from the list.
Blacklisting passengers who disobey the rules for traveling by air and so place their own interests before everything else, including safety, has long been overdue
There have been frequent reports of passengers making a scene when their flight was delayed or when they believed that they were not treated as they should be on a flight.
Yet it is natural for some flights to be delayed because of reasons such as bad weather or mechanical problems that need to be solved. However, some passengers seem to take it for granted that their flight must take off at the time stated on their ticket, and they even assume that the members of the cabin crew are simply there to do their bidding(吩咐).
They forget that they should behave themselves in the first place and that respect is reciprocal (互相给与的).There is no reason for them to be respected when they do not show enough respect for others.
Observing rules can never be over-emphasized when it comes to flight safety. No one has the right to disregard the rules for any reason. Of course, airlines should provide quality services to meet the needs of passengers. Yet, even if passengers are not satisfied with the service provided, there is still no reason for them to flout the rules that are designed for the safety of all.
The blacklisting of these three passengers should serve for others to know they have to toe the line
(1)Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A.Never before have airline passengers been blacklisted.
B.At no time should flights be delayed, whatever the reasons.
C.Members of the cabin crew should be at the passengers' service at any moment.
D.If an airline passenger is blacklisted, he or she will never be allowed to travel by air.

A.abolishing
B.violating
C.setting
D.obeying

A.Tolerate
B.Curious
C.Critical
D.Neutral
(4)The text is most probably taken from ________.
A.a research paper
B.a newspaper report
C.an advertisement
D.a flight guide

Expressing gratitude regularly is a wonderful habit to your children. In fact, studies have shown that people who feel gratitude on a daily basis are happier in general. Today we'll discuss ideas to help your children express their gratitude.
Make a gratitude tree. Start with a large piece of craft paper and draw a tree trunk. Then ask the kids to paint or color it in brown. Each day ask your kids to think of something they're thankful for.And they'll have a gratitude tree full of leaves one day.
Express your thankfulness to the ones you love.Print the photos in a 5'×7'size and ask the kids to write a short note on the back explaining why they're grateful to that person. Family members, especially those who don't live nearby, will cherish the present.
Pick a regular time, maybe one Saturday a month, and do some voluntary jobs as a family. One child may want to spend a day helping to clean up their favorite park while another might want to read books to nursing home residents.
Go grocery shopping for a family in need. Many stores now offer pre-made bags to donate right at the checkout line. While this is convenient, the larger the role they play in the act of giving, the bigger the effect it will have on your kids.
