故填who/that

故填whether/if

故填an

根据the center of the road可知表示在路的中间,短语in the center of …在…中间。故填in

Soon an old man came along with his cow.以及下文then another came, and another. 故填Another

The night will be very dark. 故填will come

故填to find

常和表示过去的时间状语连用,如yesterday, last week, last night, in 2003, two days ago等。

I got up at 6:30 yesterday.

My father was very busy last week.

I played tennis last weekend.

My school trip was great.

Living in a culture that is different from your own can be both an exciting and challenging experience. 1 Here are some major cultural differences between China and the US to help promote mutual understanding.

Privacy

Chinese people do not have the same concept of privacy as Americans do. They talk about topics such as ages, income or marital status, which Americans think is annoying and intrusive(侵扰的).

Family

In China, elders are traditionally treated with enormous respect and dignity while the young are cherished and nurtured. In America, the goal of the family is to encourage independence, particularly that of the children. 2

Friends

Chinese people have different meanings to define friends. 3 Friendship means lifelong friends who feel deeply obligated to give each other whatever help might seem required. Americans always call people they meet friends, so the definition of friends is general and different. There are work friends, playing friends, school friends and drinking friends.

Money

4 They are always conservative when they are planning to spend money. It is different in the USA, where far fewer families are saving money for emergencies and education than their Chinese counterparts.

5

Basically, China values the community and the US values the individual. If you achieve something in the US, it's because you were great. Corn has been a significant part in American food since before European arrival. After the Civil War, grits (粗玉米粉), which is made out of corn, became a diet mainstay (支柱) because water-powered mills (磨坊) worked to grind dried corn. They were relatively inexpensive and could be eaten with almost anything, making it possible for everyone to enjoy.

Grits are usually cooked with water, cream and butter over the course of many hours. There can be varying types of grits from smooth to grainy. There are even instant grits for those without the hours to cook. Worth noting is that sugar is not typically added.

Grits can be served for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but they're commonly used as a base, usually topped with seafood and a delicious sauce. It's a dish eaten by everyone from sitting presidents to blue collar workers in a variety of ways, both in fine dining restaurants and oily spoons.

Shrimp and grits is the most well-known dish incorporating grits, especially in coastal areas like Charleston, South Carolina. It was originally a fisherman’s breakfast, a hearty meal before a long day of work, and today, it's found on menus throughout the nation.

Chefs have also become creative with the dish, adding modern elements to the traditional. Mashama Bailey has a foie gras (鹅肝酱) and grits dish at The Grey in Savannah, Georgia. Edward Lee has prepared it like the porridge his Korean parents cooked during his growing up, but uses Kentucky's Wiesenberger grits. The science of papermaking addresses the methods, equipment, and materials used to make paper and cardboard, these being used widely for printing, writing, and packaging, among many other purposes and useful products. Today almost all paper is produced using industrial machinery. 1

The method of manual(手工的)papermaking changed very little over time, despite advances in technologies.2Separate the useful fibre from the rest of raw materials. Beat down the fibre into pulp(纸浆).Adjust the color, chemical, biological, and other properties of the paper. Screen (筛选)the resulting liquid. Press and dry to get the actual paper.

3 It is made of stainless materials and set in a wooden frame similar to that of a window. Then completely bathe it in the liquid and draw it out. Water is removed and the wet mat of fibre is laid on top of a damp cloth. The fairly damp fiber is then dried. Finally, the paper is then cut to the desired shape and packed.

The wooden frame is called a “deckle” (定纸框). 4 The “deckle edges” are one of the indications that the paper was made by hand. Deckle-edged paper is occasionally imitated today to create the impression of old-fashioned luxury.

5 It is also used in paper factories to check the quality of the production process. The “handsheets" made according to TAPPI Standard T205 are tested for paper characteristics such as brightness, strength and degree of sizing.

A.Screening the fibre involves using a special net.

B.The process of papermaking is really complicated.

C.It leaves the edges of the paper slightly irregular and wavy.

D.In laboratories handmade paper is prepared to study papermaking.

E.However, traditional papermaking in Asia uses the inner skin fibres of plants.

F.The process of manufacturing handmade paper can be generalized into five steps.

G.But handmade paper is still appreciated for its distinctive uniqueness and the skilled craft.
