5考查主语从句。句意:众所周知,理论是建立在实践的基础上并反过来服务实践。此句构造的主语从句缺少主语,故用What。

【题目】Malala Yousafzai, the teen activist from Pakistan, has just become the youngest person ever to win a Nobel Prize. In 2012, Malala survived from being shot by terrorists for speaking out for a girl’s right to be educated in her native country. She is being recognized today for her global activism on education for girls. Winning this award is a huge honor, especially for such a young person.

Malala’s journey to the Nobel Prize has not been easy. She grew up in a dangerous district of Pakistan called the Swat Valley. This area was taken over by the Taliban. The Taliban ruled the district with an iron fist. They were especially cruel to women, not allowing them to go shopping, have jobs, or go to school.

In 2009, Malala began speaking out publicly for every girl's right to an education. She blogged about how the Taliban didn’t want her to go to school. She also continued to attend her local school, despite the danger involved.

Then, in 2012, the Taliban tried to kill Malala to silence her. Two Taliban gunmen shot her and two other students while they were on a school bus. Malala was flown to the United Kingdom for immediate medical treatment.

Malala eventually recovered from her injuries. She now lives in Birmingham, England, and continues to work hard to support girls' and women’s rights around the world.

【题目】The easy way out isn’t always easiest. I learned that lesson when I decided to treat Doug, my husband of one month, to a special meal. I looked through my cookbook and chose a menu which included homemade bread. Knowing the bread would take time, I started on it as soon as Doug left for work. As I was not experienced in cooking, I thought if a dozen was good, two dozen would be better, so I doubled everything. As Dong loved oranges, I also opened a can of orange and poured it all into the bowl. Soon there was a sticky dough(面团)covered with ugly yellowish marks. Realizing I had failed, I put the dough in the rubbish bin outside so I wouldn't have to face Doug laughing at my work.

I went on preparing the rest of the meal, and, when Doug got home, we sat down to Cornish chicken with rice. He tried to enjoy the meal but seemed disturbed. Twice he got up and went outside, saying he thought he heard a noise. The third time he left, I went to the windows to see what he was doing. Looking out, I saw Doug standing about three feet from the rubbish bin, holding the lid up with a stick and looking into the container. When I came out of the house, he dropped the stick and explained that there was something alive in out rubbish bin. Picking up the stick again, he held the lid up enough for me to see. I felt cold. But I stepped closer and looked harder. Without doubt it was my work. The hot sun had caused the dough to double in size and the fermenting yeast (酵母)made the surface shake and sigh as though it were breathing. I had to admit what the 'living thing 'was and why it was there. I don't know who was more embarrassed by the whole thing--Doug or me?

When you want to find a job, you have to face the employer and you must know how to introduce yourself well. Then you will be lucky enough.

The first impressions can play a major role in how an employer like you as a candidate(求职者). What you say during the first step of the interview may make a big difference. In fact, some hiring managers may make a decision to refuse a candidate based on what they didn’t do when you met them. That’s why it’s important to pay attention to interview manners and to carefully think through how you will introduce yourself during a job interview.

When arriving at the interview site you can introduce yourself to the receptionist (接待员) by giving your name and telling the purpose of your visit. For example: “My name is Tim Jones and I have an interview scheduled with John Smith at 2 pm.” You will be guided into the interview room or the hiring manager will come out to meet you in the reception area. Again, take the time to introduce yourself so the interviewer knows who you are.

Offer to shake hands, even if the interviewer doesn’t offer his hand first. Tell the interviewer that it is a pleasure to meet him. Smile, and be sure to make eye contact.

Many hiring managers will start an interview with an open-ended question like “Tell me

about yourself.” Your response should focus on the key elements in your background. You should carefully analyze the job first to the interviewer, and you can point out the interests, skills, experiences, and personal qualities.

Your introduction should be brief enough to hold the interest of the interviewer so that you can move on to the next question. Your goal is to connect personally with the interviewer as well as to show that you’re qualified for the job. Of course, your comments should show your enthusiasm for the job and organization. However, don’t overdo it and don’t spend too much time talking about yourself.
