Any car accident is frightening, but an accident in which your vehicle is thrown into the water, with you trapped inside, is absolutely(绝对地) terrifying.

1. . However, most deaths result from fear, without a plan or understanding what is happening to the car in the water. By adopting a brace(支撑) position, acting decisively and getting out fast, you can save yourself from a sinking vehicle.

Brace yourself for impact (撞击力). As soon as you're aware that you're going off th e road and into a body of water, adopt a brace position. The impact could set off the airbag system in your vehicle, so you should place both hands on the steering wheel(方向盘) in the "ten and two" position.

Undo your seatbelt. 2. . Release the children, starting with the oldest first. Forget the cell phone call. Your car isn't going to wait for you to make the call.

3. . Leave the door alone at this stage and concentrate on the window. A car's electrical system should work for up to three minutes in water, so try the method of opening it electronically first. Many people don't think about the window as an escape choice either because of fear or misinformation about doors and sinking.

Break the window. If you aren't able to open the window, or it only opens halfway, you'll need to break it with an object or your foot. It may feel counter-intuitive (有悖常理的) to let water into the car. 4. .

Escape when the car has equalized. If it has reached the stage where the car has been filled with water and it has become balanced, you must move quickly and effectively to ensure your survival. 5. . While there is still air in the car, take slow, deep breaths and focus on what you're doing.

A. Open the window as soon as you hit the water.

B. This is the first thing to do, yet it often gets forgotten.

C. Surviving a sinking car is not as difficult as you think.

D. In short, if you know what to do in the water, you will be safe.

E. It takes 60 to 120 seconds for a car to be filled with water usually.

F. Such accidents are particularly dangerous to the risk of drowning(淹死).

G. But the sooner the window is open, the sooner you can escape directly through it.

More than half a century ago, there were 4, 000 drive-in movie theaters in the United States, and watching a movie from your car was a popular way to spend an evening. But with the number of drive-ins reduced to just a few hundred, outdoor movie has been popping up across the nation. Going to an open-air theater has become a modern summer pastime for an increasing number of movie fans.

In recent years, outdoor movie screenings have come up in parks, vacant lots and shopping malls around the nation. On average, about 1,000 people attend each movie night. It attracts a lot of young professionals, young workers and residents nearby. For some, the outdoor movies bring back the memories of the drive-in theaters of their youths. His seven-member crew sets up screens in various locations mostly in the Washington area every day throughout the summer. They are doing pretty well and they hope to continue the trend. For the last couple of weeks, I had been stuck in front of my computer working on a project that was very important to me. My every waking hour was consumed by the project and although I imagined that I would feel happy after completing parts of the project, I was confused to find that instead, I was feeling rather depressed. I tried a range of methods to help cheer myself up. I had a relaxing bath, cooked a delicious meal to enjoy with my family and even watched a lighthearted movie, but to no avail. It was only when I turned to think for a solution that the answer came to me: turn to nature!

The very next day, I grabbed my camera and a bottle of water and set off to spend a few hours walking in a nature reserve, even though it was pouring with rain. Within a couple of minutes I felt alive again. To be honest, I felt like a young school girl again and had to stop myself from hopping along the path singing, "I'm singing in the rain", a song I used to sing when I was a child. I think as adults we often try too hard to control our inner children and as a result we limit our own spirits, which only leads to depression and stress.

Interestingly, it has been shown that people who spend 40 minutes walking in a nature reserve have a drop in their blood pressure levels, but this does not happen when they spend a similar amount of time walking in a busy city center.

If you feel a little low in spirit and know that you have spent too much time indoors, relax completely, remove your shoes and let your inner child come out and play.

1.The reason why the author felt depressed is that_______.

A. she was afraid she couldn’t finish her work on time

B. she spent too much time indoors in front of her computer

C. her every waking hour was consumed by the project

D. the project was very important to her

2.In the author's opinion, _______.

A. adults should express their inner feelings freely

B. depression is usually caused by hard work

C. walking in a busy city center harms people's health

D. a bath can make people relaxed

3.The last paragraph mainly serves as a(n) _______.

A. explanation B. warning

C. introduction D. reminder

There are various aspects that go into making a successful school, and success can be measured in various ways.Often, the teachers are praised for a school’s success and blamed for its failure.Yet, in order for a school to be effective, it must be a place where teaching and learning can easily take place, and that requires the hard work of more than just educators.Students must take learning into their own hands and feel as if what they are doing is as important as it actually is.This can only be done with the cooperation of every adult that is involved in the students’ life. Some of these individuals often go unnoticed, yet the role they play in the students’ lives is immeasurable.

In the school, administrative assistants greet students at the start of the day and answer a large quantity of questions. When an assistant remembers a student’s name or even something special about that student, it communicates to him that he is cared for.The assistant can also give that extra encouragement for a student to make better choices, especially when they are visiting the principal’s office.

Meanwhile, though cafeteria workers have a short space of time to interact with students, they can make a big difference as well.Beyond meeting nutritional needs, cafeteria workers may also on occasion meet the emotional needs of the students they serve.Students benefit from positive interaction with adults, and cafeteria workers may give that extra bit of encouragement that a child needs.

Custodians(管理员)are usually underappreciated for what they offer to schools. They have to be knowledgeable about everything from cleaning to fixing the most intricate(复杂的)tools. They get to school early in the morning before teachers arrive and lock up late at night after the last student has left from the after-school event. They also make sure teachers are equipped with the necessary items and prepare the rooms so that they are ready for learning.A great custodian also gives that kind word or extra smile to that student who needs it most.

My friend’s grandfather came to America from a farm in Thailand. After arriving in New York, he went into a cafeteria(自助餐厅) in Manhattan to get something to eat.
