Tips for Confident Decision Making
Are you a good decision maker? Do you sit on the fence? If you'd like to be more content and confident with your decision making, then these four tips are just the things you need.
Do your “homework”
Make choices based on what is the most important to you.You may even want to speak to someone else who has been through this before. Then when you are ready, just decide.
You are in charge.
By blaming others you give your power away. Just believe you have made the right choice and take responsibility for the result. This will be a real encouragement to your self-confidence.

It's great to stick with your decisions. There are times however when you need to change your mind. Don't worry about making a wrong choice. The good thing about being wrong is that you will know where to correct yourself and when to take action.
You're going to make it.
Sometimes it is going to be hard to be persistent(坚持不懈). You know you are doing the right thing and it's just taking so much time, effort, money and energy. After making bold choice, remember you have a reason why.Say to yourself out loud “No matter how hard it is, I'm going to make it.”
Decision making takes courage and there are many things you can do to decide more confidently. So don't delay, you can start right now by deciding to make this new habit.
A. The more confident, the better decision.
B. This will mean you have to do a research and look at all theavailable options.
C. Whatever result you get, you can't blame others.
D. Confident decision making is of great significance.
E. Or are you constantly changing your mind?
F. It's OK to change your mind.
G. Remember you are taking yourself to the next level.

【答案】E;B;C;F;G
【解析】本文是一篇说明文,提供了自信做出抉择的一些方法技巧。
(1)考查对上下文的理解和推理判断能力。根据空前”Are you a good decision maker? Do you sit on the fence?“你是一个好的决策者吗?你是模棱两可?还是….说明下一句要用表示反义的句子。因此E. Or are you constantly changing your mind?”还是不断的改变主意“,能承上启下,故选E。(2)考查对上下文的理解和推理判断能力。根据空前”Make choices based on what is the mast important to you.“你做决定时要以什么对你来说最重要为基础。以及下面的你可能要和有经验的人聊聊。因此B. This will mean you have to do a research and look at all theavailable options.”你要调研一下并且衡量所有的选择。“合语境,故选B。
(3)考查对上下文的理解和推理判断能力。根据空后”By blaming others you give your power away. “责备别人就会使你权威丧尽。可以判断出总结句是不管有什么后果,不要责备别人。故选C。
(4)考查对上下文的理解和推理判断能力。根据空后”It's great to stick with your decisions. There are times however when you need to change your mind.“可知你坚持决定不错,但有时改变主意也是可以的。故选F。
(5)考查对上下文的理解和推理判断能力。根据空前”After making bold choices, remember you have a reason why.“做了大胆决定后,记住你有理由。以及 空后”Say to yourself out loud ‘No matter how hard it is, I'm going to make it.’“大声对自己说无论多艰难,我会成功的。G. Remember you are taking yourself to the next level.与空前一句构成排比句。故选G。

The healthy adolescent boy or girl likes to do the real things in life,to do the things that matter. He would rather be a plumber's mate and do a real job that requires doing than learn about hydrostatics(流体静力学)sitting at a desk, without understanding what practical use they are going to be. A girl would rather look after the baby than learn about child care. Logically we should learn about things before doing them and that is probably why the experts enforce this in our educational system. But it is not the natural way---nor, in my view, the best way. The adolescent wants to do things first for only then does the appreciate the problems involved and want to learn more about them.
They do these things better in primitive life, for there at puberty(青春期) the boy joins his father in making canoes, patching huts, going out fishing or hunting. He is serving his apprenticeship in the actual accomplishments of life.It is not surprising that anthropologists(人类学家) find that the adolescents of primitive communities do not suffer from the same neurotic(神经质的) “difficulties” as those of civilized life. This is not,as some assume, because they are permitted more sexual freedom, but because they are given more natural outlets for their native interests and powers and are allowed to grow up freely into a full life of responsibility in the community.
In the 19th century this was recognized in the apprenticeship system, which allowed the boy to go out with the master carpenter,or ploughman,to engage in the actual work of carpentry or roof-mending,and so to learn his trade. In some agricultural colleges at the present time young men have to do a year's work on a farm before their theoretical training at college. The great advantage of this system is that it lets the apprentice see the practical problems before he sets to work learning how to solve them, and he can therefore take a more intelligent interest in his theoretical work.
Since more knowledge of more things is now required in order to cope with the adult world, the period of growing-up to independence takes much longer than it did in more primitive community, and the responsibility for such education, which formerly was in the hands of the parents,is now necessarily undertaken by experts at school. But that should not make us lose sight of the basic principle, namely the need and the desire of the adolescent to engage responsibly in the real pursuits of life and then to learn how—to learn through responsibility, not to learn before responsibility.

A.the kind of skills boys learned from their father

Laws that would have ensured pupils from five to 16 received a full financial education got lost in the 'wash up'. An application is calling on the next government to bring it back.
At school the children are taught to add up and subtract(减法) but, extraordinarily ,are not routinely shown how to open a bank account — let alone how to manage their finances in an increasingly complex and demanding world.
Today the parenting website Mumsnet and the consumer campaigner Martin Lewis have joined forces to launch an online application to make financial education a compulsory element of the school curriculum in England. Children from five to 16 should be taught about everything from pocket money to pensions, they say. And that was exactly the plan preserved in the Children, Schools and Families bill that was shelved by the government in the so-called “wash-up” earlier this month — the rush to legislation before parliament was dismissed.Consumer and parent groups believe financial education has always been one of the most frustrating omissions of the curriculum.
As the Personal Finance Education Group (Pfeg) points out, the good habits of young children do not last long. Over 75% of seven- to 11-year-olds are savers but by the time they get to 17,over half of them are in debt to family and friends.By this age,26% see a credit card or overdraft(透支) as a way of extending their spending power.Pfeg predicts that these young people will “find it much harder to avoid the serious unexpected dangers that have befallen many of their parents' generation unless they receive good quality financial education while at school.”
The UK has been in the worst financial recession(衰退)for generations. It does seem odd that — unless parents step in — young people are left in the dark until they are cruelly introduced to the world of debt when they turn up at university. In a recent poll of over 8,000 people, 97% supported financial education in schools, while 3% said it was a job for parents.

(3)The website and the consumer campaigner joined to _________.
A.instruct the pupils to donate their pocket money
B.promote the connection of schools and families
C.ask the government to dismiss the parliament
D.appeal for the curriculum of financial education
(4)According to Pfeg,___________.
A.it is easy to keep good habits long
B.teenagers spend their money as planned
C.parents are willing to pay the debt for their kids
D.it will be in trouble if the teenagers are left alone
(5)A poll is mentioned to ___________.
A.stress the necessity of the curriculum reform
B.show the seriousness of the financial recession
C.make the readers aware of burden of the parents

The iPhone, the iPad: each of Apple's products sounds cool and has become a fad(一时的风尚). Apple has cleverly taken advantage of the power of the letter “i” --and many other brands are following suit. The BBC's iPlayer--which allows Web users to watch TV programs on the Internet--used the title in 2008. A lovely bear--popular in the US and UK--that plays music and video is called “iTeddy”. A slimmed-down version(简装本) of London's Independent newspaper was started last week under the name “i”.
In general, single-letter prefixes(前缀) have been popular since the 1990s, when terms such as e-mail and e-commerce(电子商务) first came into use.
Most “I” products are targeted at(针对) young people and considering the major readers of Independent's “I”, it's no surprise that they've selected this fashionable name.
But it's hard to see what's so special about the letter “i”. Why not use “a”, “b”, or “c” instead? According to Tony Thorne, head of the Language Center at King's College, London, “i” works because its meaning has become ambiguous. When Apple uses “i”, no one knows whether it means Internet, information, individual or interactive, Thorne told BBC Magazines. “Even when Apple created the iPod, it seems it didn't have one clear definition(定义),” he says.
“However, thanks to Apple, the term is now connected with portability (轻便).” adds Thorne.
Clearly the letter “i” also agrees with the idea that the Western World is centered on the individual. Each person believes they have their own needs, and we love personalized products for this reason.
Along with “Google” and “blog”, readers of BBC Magazines voted “I” as one of the top 20 words that have come to define the last decade(十年).
But as history shows, people grow tired of fads. From the 1900s to 1990s, products with “2000” in their names became fashionable as the year was connected with all things advanced and modern. However, as we entered the new century, the fashion disappeared.
(1)We can infer that the Independent's "i" is designed at .
A.old readers
B.young readers
C.fashionable women
D.engineers
(2)The underlined word “ambiguous” means ““.
A.popular
B.clear
C.uncertain
D.unique
(3)Nowadays, the “i” term often reminds people of the products which are.
A.portable
B.environmentally friendly
C.advanced
D.recyclable
(4)The writer suggests that.
A.“i” products are often of high quality
B.iTeddy is alive bear
C.the letter “b” replaces letter “i” to name the products
D.the popularity of “i” products may not last long
