¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿In 1978, I was 18 and was working as a nurse in a small town about 270 km away from Sydney, Australia. I was looking forward to having five fays off from duty. Unfortunately, the only one train a day back to my home in Sydney had already left. So I thought I¡¯d hitch a ride (´î±ã³µ).

I waited by the side of the highway for three hours but no one stopped for me. Finally, a man walked over and introduced himself as Gordon. He said that although he couldn¡¯t give me a lift, I should come back to his house for lunch. He noticed me standing for hours in the November heat and thought I must be hungry. I was doubtful as a young girl but he assured (ʹ¡¡·ÅÐÄ)me I was safe, and he also offered to help me find a lift home afterwards. When we arrived at his house, he made us sandwiches. After lunch, he helped me find a lift home.

Twenty-five years later, in 2003, while I was driving to a nearby town one day, I saw an elderly man standing in the glaring heat, trying to hitch a ride. I thought it was another chance to repay someone for the favour I¡¯d been given decades earlier. I pulled over and picked him up. I made him comfortable on the back seat and offered him some water.

After a few moments of small talk, the man said to me, ¡°You haven¡¯t changed a bit, even your red hair is still the same.¡± I couldn¡¯t remember where I¡¯d met him. He then told me he was the man who had given me lunch and helped me find a lift all those years ago. It was Gordon.

¡¾3¡¿The reason why the author offered a lift to the elderly man was that .

A.she realized he was Gordon

B.she had known him for decades

C.she was going to the nearby town

D.she wanted to repay the favour she once got

¡¾4¡¿What does the author want to tell the readers through the story?

A.Giving sometimes produces nice results

B.Those who give rides will be rapid.

C.Good manners bring about happiness

D.People should offer free rides to others.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Advice for Graduates

Thank you for letting me share this wonderful day with you. The next part of my speech consists of some advice, which is rarely valued, seldom remembered, never followed. As Oscar Wilde said, ¡¾1¡¿ So, here comes the advice.

First, every time you celebrate an achievement, ¡¾2¡¿ Thank your parents and friends who supported you, thank your professors who were inspirational, and especially thank the other professors whose less-than brilliant lectures forced you to teach yourself. To your fellow students who have added immeasurably to your education during those late night discussions, hug them.

Second, in your future life, cultivate a generous spirit. ¡¾3¡¿ Leave the change on the table. In a successful cooperation, everybody gets 90 percent of the profit.

My third piece of advice is as follows: As you begin this new stage of your lives, follow your passion. If you don¡¯t have a passion£¬don¡¯t be satisfied until you find one. ¡¾4¡¿ When I was your age, I was incredibly single-minded in my goal to be a physicist. After college, I spent eight years as a graduate student and postdoc at Berkeley, and then nine years at Bell Labs. During that my time, my central focus and professional joy was physics.

Here is my final advice. Pursuing a personal passion is important, but it should not be your only goal. When you are old and gray, and look back on your life, you will want to be proud of what you have done. The source of that pride won¡¯t be the things you have acquired or the recognition you have received. ¡¾5¡¿

A.It will be the lives you have touched and the difference you have made.

B.In all negotiations, don¡¯t bargain for the last, little advantage.

C.¡°I like to do all the talking myself. It saves time, and prevents arguments.¡±

D.¡°The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself.¡±

E.Life is too short to go through it without caring deeply about something.

F.be thankful to those who made it possible.

G.Change your manners when you are dealing with others.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ Staying fit and healthy plays an important role in our life. People sometimes ignore their health because of the busy daily schedules but there are some little things that you can do each day that will add to being healthy and fit. Here are some ways to stay fit and healthy.

Get regular check-ups. One should get a physical check-up every year to make sure everything is as it should be. ¡¾1¡¿Getting physical examinations regularly benefits you because if and when something is wrong, you will get to know about it timely.

¡¾2¡¿One should walk for a few minutes every day to stay fit. It improves body awareness and can help reduce pressure. Exercise helps to strengthen the heart and lungs, strength training helps to strengthen the muscles and stretching helps to reduce the risk of injury.

Eat breakfast. One should have healthy breakfast as it keeps you energetic for the best mental and physical performance. ¡¾3¡¿It also helps to keep a healthy weight because you are less likely to overwork later in the day.

Don¡¯t skip lunch. We are trying to lose weight. We don¡¯t have time and end up working through our lunch break. But try to eat a light lunch each day.

No late dinners. With our busy lives we always put off dinner until the last minute. ¡¾4¡¿ This will give your body a chance to ¡°eat¡± most of the food before you rest for the next 8 hours.

¡¾5¡¿

A.Take enough exercise.

B.Work more and walk more.

C.Give them a try and see for yourself.

D.It helps to keep stable blood sugar levels.

E.Try to eat dinner at least 3 hours before you go to bed.

F.There is no harm to get check-ups as it¡¯s good for your body.

G.Skipping breakfast makes you form a bad eating habit in the long run.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ Growth is painful. It¡¯s like clearing out your drawers by pulling out every little thing inside of you, examining it, and deciding whether to throw it out or not. It can be scary. Therefore, if you have the following feelings, that¡¯s the beginning of growing.

Uncertainty

During t he process of growth, you should feel uncertain. ¡¾1¡¿. Let it run its course and enjoy the aimlessness as much as you can.

Self-doubt

¡¾2¡¿. Everything you¡¯ve come to know about yourself and your life is now being examined. If you¡¯re not feeling self-doubt, you¡¯re not going deep enough. Keep digging. The moment that you feel self-doubt is the dark night before the dawn.

Insecurity(²»°²È«¸Ð )

Many people believe that insecurity is shameful. However, it means that you are moving from one stage to the next. You are stepping into a completely unknown part of yourself. ¡¾3¡¿.

Fear

Do you know why you¡¯ve been kept away from your chances to grow? ¡¾4¡¿. Keep moving forward and pushing beyond it.

Anxiety

Where there is insecurity, fear, and uncertainty, there is surely anxiety. Anxiety is part of growth. You have very little control over what happens to you. However. you can control how you react to it. You can choose to stick your head in the sand and stay the same, or you can grow and be free.¡¾5¡¿.

A. The choice is yours

B. You don¡¯t know where to go yet

C. Be grateful for these scary feelings

D. You¡¯re growing into a whole new stage

E. That¡¯s the fear that has kept you from moving on

F. Of course you will feel doubtful about what you¡¯re doing

G. It¡¯s only natural that you wouldn¡¯t feel wholly sure of yourself
