Some time ago,I was diagnosed with breast cancer and reacted in the way most people would. The first thing came to mind was a “death sentence”.  However,I found out later it was truly “an awakening” for me,especially after being diagnosed with colon cancer a few years later, but still alive to tell about them both.I began to question God.Why was I chosen to suffer this double challenge? What had I done in life so bad to have this placed upon me?I was unhappy with the way I look and the intolerant pain I had to experience each day,but instead of sighing over my fate,I decided to look on the positive sides of it.
I knew that I was about to face a new beginning, new hope,do and see more with a whole new perspective on life.I also began thinking of the individuals that are no longer among us and how there will always be someone worse off than I am.Who am I to complain?I still have my life.
During my treatments,I experienced something of a miracle that I had to write down.I took that experience and turned it into a poem and I called it “Peace”.I took that poem along with many others I had composed during my breast cancer period and submitted them for publication. The book of poems was accepted and published under the title “True Simple Poems of Life,Faith and Survival”.
I continue to write and hope that my poetry may encourage other unfortunate people and my writing continues to give me strength.I've had another inspirational children's book published called “If Only I Could Fly,Said Mattiebee”.
I would never have become a writer, producing inspirational stories,if I had not gone through all that I did.I'm a true example that you can survive cancer, not once, but twice, providing that you catch it in time.It won't all be easy, but you must have faith and allow that faith to direct your path.
I truly believe when you survive a terrible tragedy or a horrible disease like cancer,it's for a reason—you have a purpose, and I want to live and find out exactly what that is for me.

Please excuse me if I’m a little sad today because Mark is leaving. You probably don’t know Mark, but you might be lucky enough to know someone just like him. He’s been the heart and soul of the office for a couple of years combining professional skills with a sweet and gentle nature. He’s never been all that interested in getting credit for the terrific work he does.He just wants to do his job,and to do it extremely well.
And now he’s moving on to an exciting new professional opportunity. It sounds like it could be the chance of a lifetime, and we’re sincerely pleased for him.But that doesn’t make it any easier to say goodbye to a dear friend and trusted colleague.
Life has a way of throwing these curve balls at us.Just when we start to get comfortable with a person,a place or a situation, something comes along to change the recipe.A terrific neighbor moves away.Someone in the family graduates.A child finds new love and loyalties through marriage. The family’s bread-winner is laid off.Our ability to cope with change and disruption determines our peace, happiness and contentment in life.
But how do we do that? According to the author of Ecclesiaste, comfort can be found in remembering that “to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.Let today embrace the past with remembrance, and the future with longing.’’
“Change, indeed,is painful, yet ever needful,”said philosopher Thomas Carlyle.“And if memory has its force and worth,so also has hope.”
We’re going to miss Mark. But rather than lose ourselves in the sadness of our parting,we’ll focus on our hopes for a brighter future——for him,and for us.And then we’ll go out and do everything we can to make that future happen.Until our plans change——again.

A high school history teacher once told us, “If you make one close friend in school, you will be most fortunate. A true friend is someone who stays with you for life.”      teaches that he is right. Good friendship is just not easily   .
It is possible that we simply do not stay in one place long enough for a true friendship to    . However, there can be      disagreement in the need for each of us to think carefully about what kind of friendship we want.
To most of us,     are considered very important, but we need to make it clear in our minds what kind of friendship we want. Are they to be close or      at arm’s length? Do we want to     ourselves or do we want to walk on surface(表面)? For some people, many friendships on the surface are      enough and that’s all right. But at some point we need to make sure that our      are the same as our friends’ expectations. The sharing of     experiences including our tears as well as our dark dreams is the surest way to       friendships. But it must be done slowly and     only if there are signs of interest and action     .
What are some of the    of friendship? The greatest is the attraction to expect too much too soon. Deep relationships     time. Another “main difficulty” is the selfishness to think one “      ” the other, including his time and attention.   , friendships require actions in return. In other words, you must give as      as you take. Finally, there is a question of taking care of. Unless you spend      time together, talking on the phone, writing letters, doing things together, friendships will die     .

How many of us have heard that question, "Where was GOD when the World Trade Center(世贸中心) and the Pentagon(五角大楼) were attacked?" Well, I know where my GOD was the morning of September 11, 2001, and He was very busy!
He was trying to discourage anyone from taking these flights. Those four flights together held over 1000 passengers and there were only 266 aboard.
He was on 4 commercial flights giving frightened passengers the ability to stay calm. Not one of the family members who were called by a loved one on one of the hijacked(被劫持的) planes said that passengers were screaming in the background. On one of the flights he was giving strength to passengers to try to overtake the hijackers.
He was busy trying to create obstacles(阻碍) for employees at the World Trade Center. After all, only around 20,000 were at the towers when the first jet hit. Since the buildings held over 50,000 workers, this was a Miracle in itself. How many of the people who were employed at the World Trade Center told the media that they were late for work or they had traffic delays.
He was holding up 2-110 story buildings so that 2/3 of the workers could get out. I was so amazed that the top of the towers didn't fall when the jets crashed. And when they did fall, GOD made them fall inward, as many more lives would have been lost.
So when anyone asks, "Where was your GOD on September 11," you can say "everywhere"! And yes, although this is without a doubt the worst thing I have seen in my life, I see God's miracles in every bit of it. I can't imagine going through such a difficult time and not believing in GOD – life would be hopeless. So shines a good deed in a weary world!

Compassion is a desire within us to help others. With effort, we can translate compassion into action. An experience last weekend showed me this is true, I work part-time in a supermarket across from a building for the elderly. These old people are our main customers, and it’s not hard to lose patience over their slowness. But last Sunday, one aged gentleman appeared to teach me a valuable lesson. This untidy man walked up to my register(收款机)with a box of biscuits. He said he was out of cash, had just moved into his room, and had nothing in his cupboards. He asked if we could let him have the food on trust. He promised to repay me the next day.
I couldn’t help staring at him, I wondered what kind of person he had been ten or twenty years before, and what he would be like if luck had gone his way. I had a hurt in my heart for this kind of human soul, all alone in the world, I told him that I was sorry, but store rules didn’t allow me to do so. I felt stupid and unkind saying this, but I valued my job.
Just then, another man, standing behind the first, spoke up. If anything, he looked more pitiable. “Charge it to me” was all he said.
What I had been feeling was pity. Pity is soft and safe and easy. Compassion, on the other hand, is caring in action. I thanked the second man but told him that was not allowed either, then I reached into my pocket and paid for the biscuits myself. I reached into my pocket because these two men had reached into my heart and taught me compassion.

We live in a fast-paced and anxiety-filled world that oftentimes seems to shift beneath our feet. Thus we are sometimes affected by fears or anxiety impacting our life. For as long as I could remember I had struggled with anxiety. After I left university, I made friends with a Moroccan woman at work. One day she invited me to    her and her family back home. I wanted to, but I would have to travel there     and I knew we would be in a very rural area. How would I cope with my    ?
Then one day it     to me that I had a life to live. I could choose to let anxiety     me or I could go to Morocco and     something different. I was 23 years old and had never been out of the UK alone. The journey to Morocco     something inside me. I managed to cope with my anxiety. The sense of     was overwhelming and still to this day when I get afraid of going somewhere alone, I remember how     it felt when I arrived in Morocco.
Upon arrival I was so     for the generous welcome I received. My friend’s family had arranged a welcome party. The people were so loving toward me. As a moment of     felt in a faraway village, this reminded me that I was “good enough”, which helped to     my anxiety.
Waking up the next day, in the morning light, I saw the area where we were. I was     by how rural it was – and the realization that these people had very few     .
In the days afterwards, I traveled around Morocco. We went to Marrakesh and     the Atlas mountains. We had the most amazing food – lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.
At the end of my     something inside me had changed. I realized I had not felt anxious for nearly two weeks.
Experiencing a different culture far away from home helped me to realize what is important in life, what really    , and with that my anxiety    . When I returned home I was much more active in     my anxiety. Working with people, helping them     their anxiety, is how I can share the love I found in Morocco.

Have you ever been afraid to talk back when you were treated unfairly? Have you ever bought something just because the salesman talked you into it? Many people are afraid to support themselves. Dr Robert Albert, author of Stand Up, Speak Out, and Talk Back thinks it' s because their self-respect is low. "There's always a' superior' around— a parent, a teacher, a boss— who knows better."
But Albert and other scientists are doing something to help people help themselves. They offer "assertiveness training" courses , A.T. for short. In the A.T. Course people learn that they have a right to be themselves. They learn to speak out and feel good about doing so. They learn to be aggressive without hurting other people.
In one way, learning to speak out is to get rid of fear. A group taking an A.T. Course will help the timid person to lose his fear. But A.T. uses an even stronger motive— he need to share. The timid person speaks out in the group because he wants to tell how he feels. Whether or not you speak up for yourself depends on your self-respect. If someone you face is more "important" than you, you may feel less of a person. You start to doubt your answers to problems. You can get to feel good about yourself. And once you do, you can learn to speak out.
