Three years ago, I went to a boarding school. The reason for my attended such a school was that my parents was very busy. They often went abroad on business but had no time to take care of myself. Besides, they thought I ought learn to be independent. Honest speaking, the school life does benefit me a lot. I not only learned some ways to solve problem on my own but also learned how to get along with others. But that I treasure most now is the friendship that I developed into at that time. How I miss that wonderful time!

I will share one experience with you. With the college Entrance Examination draw near, I was filled with great anxiety. However, I couldn¡¯t be absorbed in study, resulting from my failing in the examination. I got very discouraging. Just then ,my teacher, Miss Zhang, approached me and said,¡°In life we all have moments when we can¡¯t achieve what we want to. It is natural. Don¡¯t allow those moments to weaken you, and turn them into motivation to inspire yourself.¡± Her words were reminder that provided me with constant encouragement to smile at life. Consequently , I gained that I deserved.

So it is an optimistic attitude what matters most of all. It gives you the confidence to deal with difficulties and to achieve what you want in your life.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿When I found out I was moving to India, it was beyond a nightmare. It was something I couldn¡¯t even imagine. The impression I had of India were only based upon a few summer visits to my grandparents, filled with heat, pollution and dirt. Even though I was only six years old, I know this would be a complete change from my comfortable life in Maryland.

During my first six months in India, my expectations were met almost exactly. I hated my new apartment; I missed my school and friends back in Maryland, and I was sick of all the dirty marketplaces that filled the streets of New Delhi.

After those six months were over I finally realized that I was going to be in India for a while. I knew that I had to start making the most of my new life. It was then that I became completely involved in my school. My school, the American Embassy School, was filled with international students: Europeans, Australians, Chinese, and Americans just like me. But they all welcomed me with open arms. It was amazing to be among such diverse students, who had such incredible experiences to share.

Now, when I look back at my time in India, all I can think about is how fortunate I am to have had such a wonderful experience. My move to India not only allowed me to see a completely different side of the

world, but I was also able to establish unbreakable bonds with so many interesting and amazing people. Even now, after quite some years, I am still in contact with my closest friends from the American Embassy School. I cannot even imagine what I would be like without having lived in India. I would have missed out on meeting so many extraordinary people, and I would be a completely different person today.

Last year my summer holiday was ruined by my bringing along a modern convenience that was too convenient for my own good: the iPad. Instead of looking at nature, I checked my e-mail. Instead of paddling a small boat, I followed my Twitter feed£¨ÍÆÌؼòѶ£©. Instead of reading great novels, I stuck to reading four newspapers each morning. I was behaving as if I were still in the office. My body was on vacation, but my head wasn¡¯t.

So this year I made up my mind to try something different: avoiding the Internet. I knew it wouldn¡¯t be easy, since I¡¯m bad at self-control. But I was determined. I started by giving the iPad to my wife.

The cellphone signal at our house was worse than in the past, making my attempts at cheating an experience in defeat. I was trapped, forced to go through with my plan. Largely breaking away from e-mail, Twitter and my favorite newspaper websites, I had few ways to connect to the world except for the radio¡ªand how much radio can one listen to, really? I had to do what I had planned to do all along: read books.

This experience has had a happy ending. With determination and the strong support of my wife, I won in my vacation struggle against the Internet, realizing finally that it was I, not the iPad, that was the problem. I knew I had won when we passed a Starbucks and my wife asked if I wanted to stop to use the Wi-Fi. ¡°I don¡¯t need it,¡± I said.

However, as we return to post-vacation life, a harder test begins: Can I continue when I¡¯m back at work?

There are times when the need to know what¡¯s being said right now is great. I have nointention of giving up my convenience completely. But I hope to resist the temptation to check my e-mail every five minutes, which leads to checking my Twitter feed and a website or two.

I think a vacation is supposed to help you rest your brain to become more productive. Here I hope this one worked.
