When reading some material, many readers would like to focus on the first line of it and read it through from begin-ning to end. This is not an efficient way of reading. Actually, experienced readers do pre-reading before reading it. Pre-reading is a technique that allows readers to become familiar with the material to be read before beginning to read it thoroughly. 1. “Uno，dos，tres…”James counted out loud the number of pages in his history report. His older brother，Matt，sat across the kitchen table from him.

“What are you doing now，James？”asked Matt，slightly bothered by James’s loud voice. “I’m trying to study for my math test. I can’t focus on my study if you keep talking.”Matt complained.

“I need to count the number of pages. We need to have at least five pages about the American Revolution. So far I only have three.”
