题目内容

10.The words"timetable"and"schedule"make most final year students want to eat their own vomit(呕吐物).Unfortunately,the harsh reality is that final year students must develop a timetable.If you don't have a schedule or plan for studying,you will have no way of allocating your valuable time when the unexpected arises.A well-thought-out timetable can be a lifesaver.It is up to you to learn how to develop a schedule that meets your needs.Change it if necessary,but most important,follow it.All timetables should be made with the idea that they can be changed.A good one will keep you from wandering off course.
A good timetable should make every hour count-every class,social event and other activity you engage in.You must focus on the other"free time"available and how you will use it.Make a weekly schedule and divided each day into one-hour increments.Indicate times for classes,socializing,and work time.Also block off a period for sleeping every day.In the precious hours left over,plan time for study.This gives you a rough road map of the time available.Of course,you can change your schedule as circumstances need.
The timetable you develop should guide you in how to distribute the available time in the most productive manner.Sticking to your schedule can be tough,but don't dribble away valuable time.Avoiding study is the easiest thing in the world.It is up to you to follow the schedule you've prepared.A good deal of your success in high school and with any future study depends on this simple truth.
Remember,there is a learning curve.You learn the most in the first 30minutes of study; after that,it progressively deteriorates(减弱).After four or five hours of studying the same material in the same way,you are learning virtually nothing.The solution is to keep switching subjects and study styles.

1.Although many Chinese students say that their knowledge of English grammar is good,most would admit that their spoken English is poor.Whenever I speak to a Chinese student,they always say,"My spoken English is poor."(21)E.I would like to suggest that there may be some reasons for their problems with spoken English.
First,they fail to find suitable words to express themselves because of a limited vocabulary.(22)C.However,you can speak with a limited vocabulary,if you choose a positive attitude.Others will follow you as long as you use the words that you know.
(23)F.Sometimes they make mistakes when they are speaking because they are shy and nervous.Yet students should remember that their goal should be FLUENCY NOT ACCURACY.Your aim in writing is to be accurate following the rules for grammar and using the right words and spelling them correctly.However,in speaking your aim is fluency.You want to make yourselves understand,to talk to someone in English,as quickly and as well as you can,even though sometimes you may use a wrong word or tense,but it doesn't matter.(24)A.
Third,not enough attention is paid to listening.You have one mouth but two ears!All that hearing is necessary for you to start speaking.
Fourth,most Chinese students are reactive rather than proactive language learners.Instead of actively seeking out opportunities to improve their spoken English they passively wait for speaking opportunities to come to them and wonder why their English always remains poor.(25)D.

A.The person you are speaking to will understand you and make allowances for any mistakes he hears.
B.They may try to avoid making similar mistakes next time.
C.Obviously the better answer is to expand(扩大)their vocabulary.
D.If you have this proactive outlook,then you will see English opportunities wherever you go.
E.However, their spoken English does not have to remain"poor"!
F.Second,they are afraid of making mistakes.
G.The second reason lies in the reluctance of using what has just been learned.
18.If you know exactly what you want,the best way to get a job is to get specialized training.A recent survey shows that companies like graduates in such fields as business and health care who can go to work immediately with very little on-the-job training.
That's especially true of booming fields that are challenging for workers.At Cornell's School of Hotel Administration,for example,bachelor's degree graduates get an average of four or five job offers with salaries ranging from the high teens to the low 20s and plenty of chances for rapid advancement.Large companies,especially,like a background of formal education coupled with work experience.But in the long run,too much specialization doesn't pay off.Business,which has been flooded with MBAs,no longer considers the degree an automatic stamp of approval.The MBA may open doors and command a higher salary initially,but   the effect of a degree washes out after five years.
As further evidence of companies gradually losing faith in specialized degrees,Michigan State's Scheetz mentions a pattern in hiring practices.Although companies tend to take on specialists as new hires,they often seek out generalists for middle and upper-level management."They want someone who isn't constrained(限制)by details to look at the big picture,"says  Scheetz.This sounds like a formal statement that you approve of the liberal-arts (文科)graduates.Time and again labor-market analysts mention a need for talents that liberal-arts majors are assumed to have:writing and communication skills,organizational skills,open-mindedness and adaptability,and the ability to analyze and solve problems.David Birch,manager of the Boston Red Sox,claims he does not hire anybody with an MBA or an engineering degree,"I hire only liberal-arts people because they have a less-than-canned way of doing things,"says Birch.
For a liberal-arts degree,students focus on some basic courses that include literature,history,mathematics,economics,science,human behavior-plus a computer course or two.With these useful and important courses,you can feel free to specialize,"A liberal-arts degree coupled with an MBA or some other technical training is a very good combination in the marketplace,"says Scheetz.

2.Recently,university students around the world were asked to volunteer in a global experiment called Unplugged. It was designed to see how young people would react if they were asked to observe a total media ban by unplugging all forms of media devices for 24 hours.
Unplugged is being run by Dr.Roman Gerodimos,a lecturer in Communication and Journalism at Bournemouth University.During the experiment,Dr.Gerodimos said there were already signs of how much the exercise affected volunteers. He said:"They're reporting withdrawal symptoms, overeating, feeling nervous, isolated and disconnected."
During their 24-hour test, three of the experiment's participants were followed around by a BBC reporter plus cameraman. They were asked to write down 100 lines about their day offline, but of course, they all waited until the next day when they had access to their laptops.
Elliot Day wrote:"Today,my whole morning routine was thrown up into the air.Despite being aware of the social importance of the media,I was surprised by how empty my life felt without the radio or newspapers."
From Caroline Scott,we read:"I didn't expect it,but being deprived of the media for 24 hours resulted in my day-to-day activities becoming so much harder to carry out than usual…I didn't break out in a cold sweat like our lecturer expected us all to,but It's not something I would like to do again!"
And Charlotte Gay wrote:"I have to say the most difficult item for me to be without has been  my mobile;not only is it a social device,it's my main access point of communication."
Earlier in the year,a UK government study found that in the UK we spend about half our waking hours using the media, often plugged into several things at once. So,with technology continuing to develop at an alarming rate, how much time will you set aside for sleep in the future?

13.When I was about twelve,I was headed to a restaurant for dinner with my family.It was winter,and on that night,the wind was really blowing.
As my mom and I headed towards the restaurant from our car,a girl about my age and her mother came up to us.They asked if we had any spare change.My mom immediately asked where they kept their things.They pointed to an old car in a parking lot across the street.The girl said there were six of them living in that car,which was the same size as my own family.
My mom said she had something to do,and after handing the people a few dollars,we said good-bye.Then,my mother sent us inside the restaurant but she didn't come.
Later,I found out that she had gone home and emptied our cupboards into a few bags.Then,she brought that food over to the car and handed the bags to the family.I wasn't there when that part happened,but I can only imagine the joy it brought to their faces.
A few days,later,when I actually found out about what she had done,I asked her why she helped those people.She told me that we were lucky and that her family wasn't as lucky.I remember the face of that girl who had asked us for change--how she was the same age as me,yet we looked so different.
I remember thinking that the other girl didn't have any food to eat,and she was headed back to a cold car shared with her family.I will never forget what my mom did that night,and how she taught me one of the best lessons I ever learned.
