题目内容

Some students like to translate(翻译) when they practice speaking English. Translation is a very difficult exercise. During a conversation, we don’t really have time to translate what we understand. When we use translation, we don’t develop the necessary reflexes (反应能力) needed to speak and understand a foreign language. It is important to build up reflexes right from the beginning. It will help you later when your skills are good enough to take a conversation.
Here is some advice on how to build up reflexes when you only have basic words and grammar.
Relax!
No one is checking you except yourself! Look at each communication experience as an adventure. Try to relax first when you speak English. You will pick up on small details.
Context(上下文) is your friend.
What is context? It means the situation in which something happens and that helps to understand it. (2)We can make good guesses about what is being said by using the context. It will be easy when you think about the context. You will feel much more comfortable and confident if you remember that.
Ask questions what you want to know.
After you have proudly asked for tickets at the train station, the booking-office clerk (售票员) spoke a long sentence to you about the place and the time. You may be a little unclear or have only understood a part of it. However, you can ask questions about what you want to know, such as, “Did you say…?” and “Would you repeat that more slowly?”. So that you can easily move the communication forward. Use body language.
Use body language to go with your words when you __(1)___ to learn a __(1)_____ language. The person you are speaking to only wants to understand you and will be carefully listening to you. As you become more proficient (熟练的) in your second language, you will depend(依靠) more on the language and less on body language. But there is no shame for a beginner.

It’s something familiar to all parents of young children: you’re in a busy shopping street and your child wants to pee (小便) and he just can’t hold it any longer. But two parents’ decision to let their child relieve (释放) himself has caused much attention in China.
By now, it seems, the whole Chinese Internet is familiar with what happened on a crowded Hong Kong shopping street. A mother holds a nappy (尿布) while her two-year-old pees. A passerby took pictures which then were put online. The woman explained that they had found a public toilet (厕所) but saw there was a long queue, so she had no other choice but to let their child to relieve himself on the street instead.
Why has this one child’s act caused so much upset? Allowing a child under 12 to “answer the call of nature in any public street” is against the law in Hong Kong and the parents will face a 2,000 Hong Kong Dollar ($250) fine (罚款). But the on-line chatter has put all the attention on the fact that this family were tourists from mainland China, rather than being locals. “For Hong Kongers, people might think from time to time that mainlanders are not so polite and often break the public rules,” says Martin Yip of BBC. Charmaine Chui, who was born in Hong Kong, told BBC she feels angry to have seen mainland tourists peeing in shopping centers and restaurants. “Hong Kong is a beautiful, modern city. What do these people think of it?” she says.
In mainland China, there has also been criticism of the parents’ behavior. But most of the people say they find the parents’ behavior understandable as they had tried to find a toilet for their child and the mother used a paper nappy rather than simply allowing the baby to pee on the ground.

Willard was a loner(孤独的人) who seemed to have no hope or need to break silence. Shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday, we received the news of the annual(每年的) Christmas collection of money for the less      people in our school district.
“Christmas is a season of          ,” I told my students. “There are a few students in the school who might not have a happy holiday season.         donating our Christmas collection, you will help buy food, clothing and toys for these needy people. We start the collection tomorrow.” When I called for the donations the next day, I discovered that         everyone had forgotten, except Willard P. Franklin. The boy dug deep into his pants pockets      he walked up to my desk. Carefully, he      two coins into the small box.
“I don’t need milk for lunch,” he said      . For a moment, just a moment, he smiled . Then he turned and walked back to his desk.
That night, after school, I took our     to the school principal. I couldn’t         sharing the incident(事件) that had taken place.
“I may be wrong, but I believe Willard might be getting ready to become a part of the world around him,” I told the principal.
“Yes, I believe it is          for him to get out of his own world,” he nodded. “And I think we can do something to have him         a bit of his world with us. I just received a         of the poor families in our school who most need help through the Christmas collection. Here, take a look at it.”
As I read, I discovered Willard P. Franklin and his family were the top names on the list.

As a student, you must have homework every day. How do you deal with your homework? When do you usually finish your homework? Here is some advice for you to help you finish your homework well.
Homework should be done as soon as you get home from school. If you have after-school activities, the homework should be done first. At the same time, it is fine to allow for a snack break and also to allow for stretching(伸展) breaks.
Also, you should remember that it is your duty to do your homework. Don’t depend on Mum and Dad for help. Please try to find the answer yourself because you will learn much more that way.
When you have a question, especially something about a science or maths, don’t always turn to your teacher! It is a good idea to try to find the answer yourself. If this doesn’t work, you can also look at your textbooks carefully. They may help you understand the problem.
Finally, while doing homework, don’t think about or do other things. Keep working. Setting a time limit(限制) often helps with this. Different ages decide different amounts of time. 10-15 minutes is good for a child that’s aged 6-8. A time of 20-30 minutes is about right for a child aged 9-12. Kids can keep studying for 30-45 minutes at the ages of 13-15. This, of course, depends on your ability to pay attention and stay on tasks.
