题目内容

Janel gave her 13-year-old son Jim an iPhone for Christmas. But she also had a contract (契约)about how Jim’s new toy can and can’t be used.
Contract
Rule 1: It is my phone. I bought it. I pay for it. I am lending it to you. Aren’t I the greatest?
Rule 2: If it rings, answer it. It is a phone. Say “hello”, use your manners.
Rule 3: Hand the phone to one of your parents at 7:30p.m. every school night & every weekend night at 9:00 p.m.. It will be shut off for the night and turned on again at 7:30a.m..
Rule 4: Turn it off, silence it, put it away in public. Especially in a restaurant, at the movies, or while speaking with another people. You are not a rude person, do not allow the iPhone to change that.
Rule 5: Leave your phone home sometimes and feel safe. It is not all for you. Learn to live without it. Be bigger and more powerful than it.
Rule 6: Don’t take too many pictures and videos. There is no need to record everything. They will be stored in your memory for ever.

Computer games are very popular. It is natural for people to want to win, so playing against a computer or against a friend on the computer can be difficult to stop. “ Just one more game” often turns into another game, then another.
Computer games do have their advantages. They are excellent for training hand-eye coordination(协调).Surgeons(外科医生)who play computer games as children are often more skilled. Computer games can also be great for teaching students. The students are open to learning while playing. They can study for longer than a teacher would be able to teach. Students can also learn at their own speed and not feel pressure to match classmates.  And with computers you can practise a task as many times as you like. The more you do this, the better you will get, until you can do it perfectly.
But like anything else in life, things should be balanced. Too much time on the computer can hurt your eyes. Regular breaks are needed. If students cannot stop playing computer games, they won’t do as well in other areas in their life---not just school work, but in developing important social skills such as how to talk with people and how to work with others as part of a team. And if they are no longer taking regular exercise, their health will become worse.
Computer games have their place, but people must also remember it is important to have a balanced lifestyle.

Some students like to translate(翻译) when they practice speaking English. Translation is a very difficult exercise. During a conversation, we don’t really have time to translate what we understand. When we use translation, we don’t develop the necessary reflexes (反应能力) needed to speak and understand a foreign language. It is important to build up reflexes right from the beginning. It will help you later when your skills are good enough to take a conversation.
Here is some advice on how to build up reflexes when you only have basic words and grammar.
Relax!
No one is checking you except yourself! Look at each communication experience as an adventure. Try to relax first when you speak English. You will pick up on small details.
Context(上下文) is your friend.
What is context? It means the situation in which something happens and that helps to understand it. (2)We can make good guesses about what is being said by using the context. It will be easy when you think about the context. You will feel much more comfortable and confident if you remember that.
Ask questions what you want to know.
After you have proudly asked for tickets at the train station, the booking-office clerk (售票员) spoke a long sentence to you about the place and the time. You may be a little unclear or have only understood a part of it. However, you can ask questions about what you want to know, such as, “Did you say…?” and “Would you repeat that more slowly?”. So that you can easily move the communication forward.
Use body language.
Use body language to go with your words when you __(1)___ to learn a __(1)_____ language. The person you are speaking to only wants to understand you and will be carefully listening to you. As you become more proficient (熟练的) in your second language, you will depend(依靠) more on the language and less on body language. But there is no shame for a beginner.

When you discuss about eating out with your friend, first of all, you must make it clear who will pay for the meal.If somebody suggests having lunch with his friend, he might simply say something like this "I'm afraid it'll have to be some place nearby ,as I have little money." The other person may say. "OK. I'll meet you at  Mcdonald's." This means he has agreed that the two will go Dutch, that is, each person pays for himself. He may say "Oh, no. I want to take you for lunch at Johnson's " This means the person is to pay the  bill(帐单)for both of them. Although the other person is pleased with the invitation, there is one reason why he shouldn't accept it by simply saying "Thank you."
American customs are much the same as those in other parts of the world. American women used to expect men to pay for all the meals. But today, some of them like to. However, if a woman is asked to attend a dinner or a dance outside, the invitaton itself means "Come as my guest". So, as you see, it is a polite thing to make the situation clear at the very beginning.

On a hot African morning, Leila was lying on her stomach and an elephant was walking towards her. Leila waited. Then she pushed the button on her camera. “And I got my best photo of an elephant ever, by lying under my car,” Leila explained. “I wanted to get close to the elephants, but of course this was dangerous; they had their babies with them. So every morning I used to park my car in the open near the path (小道). They used to take the same path every morning when they left the water hole. After a week, they were used to seeing my car. So the next morning, I lay under it and got my photo!”
Many of the best wildlife photos come from good planning. In Africa, photographers set up their hides (隐匿处) near water holes. They also set up hides near forest paths, as animals use the same paths every night. For bird-watching, many lakes have hides. Inside the hides, bird-watchers can watch all day in the shade (荫处) out of the wind and rain.
Good wildlife photos are needed for books, postcards, magazines and newspapers. But a success rate of 1 in 20 is good.

A sign is another kind of language. Here are some of them that you can see on the roads.

Number One is a sign with the number forty on it. When driver see this sign, they must not go at more than forty kilometers one hour. We see this sign when we are getting near a town. Number Seven is a sign that there is a school at the side of the street or the road. Perhaps there are children going to or leaving school. So drivers must look carefully and go slowly. Number Eight is a sign with a letter “P” on it. The letter “P” means “Parking”. At some places, there are signs “NO PARKING” or “NO WAITING”.
